Tom Keogh Seattle Times The film is at its best when Vargas, like a good journalist, probes the subject of immigration and talks to people about their experiences and opinions. Rated: 3/4 May 30, 2014 Full Review Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post As agenda-driven as "Documented" is, it also is a deeply engrossing self-portrait. If 11 million undocumented Americans are a statistic, one, if shown in the right light, is a tragedy. Rated: 3.5/4 May 29, 2014 Full Review Matthew Lickona San Diego Reader The best moments come when Vargas engages "regular" Americans in conversation, letting them know that he was brought here as a child...and that he has paid his taxes to boot. Rated: 1/5 May 22, 2014 Full Review Bernard Boo Way Too Indie Documented has very little to offer by way of visual style, but what it lacks in cinematic value it makes up for in raw emotion. Rated: 7/10 Mar 28, 2019 Full Review Charles Mudede The Stranger (Seattle, WA) An engaging documentary...Documented also explores Vargas's painful relationship with his mother. Sep 26, 2018 Full Review Kelly Vance East Bay Express We come to the realization that some of the best people in the US don't have papers. Jun 4, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews

Olivia D The documentary centers on Vargas' story and that's okay. His story is one that many can relate to and a film's visuals and dialogues don't have to be cinematic to be considered powerful. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Audience Member Had me, my girlfriend and little sister crying on the couch at two in the morning. A rattling story that certainly has its familiarities within many communities and many families in Western countries; the plight of an immigrant is a difficult one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I appreciated this film immensely. My only criticism is that it's only making a case for the immigrant who "did now know he/she was undocumented" and leaves out the rest. I found the parts relating to his mother to be truly poignant. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I recommend this to all people who are fighting for something. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Documented fearlessly exhibits how even the best people in America cannot legally call themselves Americans. Aside from being a brilliant cinematic piece, Documented is an important testament of how citizenship must be a lot more than mere papers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It conveys the dilemma faced by millions of undocumented immigrants in the USA.
