Manjusha Radhakrishnan Gulf News (UAE) If you enjoy a character-driven detective story with a touch of humor and heart, this one’s for you. Rated: 3/5 Jan 31, 2025 Full Review S. R. Praveen The Hindu Weighing down the film is quite a lot of flab, from pointless song sequences, hints of a needless romance and clumsily staged fight sequences...Dominic is a character which holds immense possibilities, but he deserves a better-made film with less frills. Ajinnath G Good investigative thriller. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/25 Full Review Adon B A beautiful movie with a crazy twist at the end. It's a must-watch film!! So I did some background research on the cast and to my surprise there was no mention of the actor who plays Karthik. He was not mentioned or seen in any of the films post-interviews and is not even credited. If anyone has any answers to this please reply. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Wheres M Has anyone seen my dad Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/25 Full Review arvind s Gautham Vasudev Menon's directorial debut in Malayalam cinema sounded brilliant and quirky on paper. With the first poster, we saw a titular character that hinted at a detective franchise in the making. But after watching this, I am not so sure if a franchise is a wise choice. Even if they do, they need to find better writers. However, this investigation thriller isn't all bad. Dominic is a retired police officer, who now takes up frivolous cases as a detective. When his landlady requests him to find the owner of a lost purse, Dominic & his recently recruited assistant find themselves in a case that is beyond their capabilities. Mammootty is a charmer and he nails the quirky nature of Dominic, who presents himself as someone who is very capable in the art of detection. Gokul Suresh gets the short end of the stick as he is for most part sidelined. For someone who proved his worth in last year's Gaganachari, it is sad to see him as such. The other actor who stands out is Sushmitha Bhat, who is pretty convincing in her role. For a thriller, Ladies' Purse moves at a snail's pace during the first half. Though the pace picks up in the final act, it is too late to salvage what had already passed. Even the choice of score seemed off at places and some revelations were forced in places that didn't demand it. Dominic's first case works partially due to Mammootty & Sushmitha's performances. But it falters big time with the pacing and some poor editing/creative decisions. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/25 Full Review Read all reviews
