Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture I think I chuckled about three times ... Dec 12, 2015 Full Review Alissa Wilkinson Christianity Today Don Verdean is a pleasingly entertaining, sometimes hilarious, quietly satirical take on what makes us tick as a subculture. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 11, 2015 Full Review Susan Wloszczyna RogerEbert.com There is little that is worse than satire that tiptoes around its subject, as if risking offense were a sin. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 11, 2015 Full Review Asia Frey Lagniappe (Mobile, AL) Rockwell is an inexplicable blank in the middle of what I can only assume was meant to be an absurd comedy. Aug 23, 2018 Full Review Roger Moore Movie Nation Should have been broader, should have been funnier. Did they lose their nerve? Rated: 1.5/4 Mar 14, 2016 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue There are some scattered laughs, but considering its broad targets, the film is too detached from reality to consistently hit the mark. mark g Sinfully original with outrageous characters that are out of this world. Good family blasphemous fun! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review joel h Revelations 3:15-16 – "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Don Verdean is a comedy that isn't particularly funny, nor is it unfunny. It's kind of just there. The story is fine, the acting is fine, but I kept waiting for this movie to take off and it never quite did. It's average. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Sam Rockwell is a god damn national treasure and we should treat him so. Jemaine Clement is from the future where comedy is on another level and he has to come here and dumb it down for us. He is that brilliant. Danny McBride is a welcome addition as well. It's a shame this didn't have a bigger release. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review mark d I kept waiting for something funny to happen. It never did. I almost laughed a couple times but gave up after 1/2 hour. Don't waste your time with this one. Do something more productive like play solitaire. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Don Verdean narrates the progressive decline of an archaeologist who, due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, has become a fraud. The secondary character, Boaz, first employed and then partner of Don Verdean, steals the limelight. It is a deranged character that, like most heroes and anti-heroes in the films of Jared Hess, is beyond good and evil. They are strange, eccentric characters who can act well or badly, but who are fatally innocent in their madness. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review toby h Actually fell asleep watching this. Had high hopes, due to the good cast. I'm a massive fan of Jermaine Clement and Flight of the Concords and was hoping for that style humour, but it didn't really give off any laughs at all.
