Jacob B Nov 14 I think there’s only so many times I can bring up the importance of separating art from the artist in relation to Joss Whedon and the 2021 exposure of all his dirty secrets before it comes off as me beating a dead horse. So let's cringe at the presence of proud-to-be-homophobic Orson Scott Card instead! Two controversial individuals for the price of one? What's not to love? Though admittedly Whedon's charges are comparatively more serious than the author of Ender's Game cringing when he sees people of the same gender making out. All that being said, this documentary about Firefly and its feature-length continuation Serenity was really enjoyable. You can tell these people, be they fans, cast or crew, were all really passionate about the show and understandably appalled at Fox's questionable treatment of it. It's definitely nice to see how their persistence to save the show paid off when they learned a movie was coming out. It's a shame the movie bombed but it says a lot about how fond the "Browncoats" were of the IP that their efforts paid off in a way that I don't think we might ever see again. Hey, how many movies based off of short-lived TV shows do YOU know? And ones whose brevity was by choice/design don't count. It's hard for me to write articulate reviews about documentaries. You're either interested in what they have to say or not, depending on whether or not the subject matter is on your wavelength. That's my stance, at least. And there're only so many times you can mention positive things before sounding like a broken record. Nevertheless, I am glad I saw this documentary and am still a bit bummed we never got, as that amusing end credits song sang about, a Big Damn Trilogy. Although, with how tyrannical Whedon could get with certain people, one can't help but wonder if Fox is feeling the tiniest bit of vindication for sabotaging Firefly's chances of getting a second season. P.S.: I'd complain about the lack of clips or stills from Firefly and/or Serenity but then I remember the Fox/Universal legal issues and figure that the headaches from two major Hollywood studios wasn't worth the trouble. Though one of Universal’s producers is still in this documentary. Make of that what you will. At least any "cart before the horse" weirdos who watched "Done the Impossible" first might be tempted to watch this too-good-to-last space Western TV show + movie and see if it's worth the hype. See more 01/25/2015 Usually a documentary like this goes for the virtually mainstream fandoms of the Trek and Wars franchises, so to see the stories of a fandom of a show that barely lasted half a season is really lovely. #mighty See more 11/30/2014 Damn, I want more Firefly.
