Audience Member Donkeyhead is essential viewing for all immigrants and others alike. It is the story of the black sheep of a Regina Punjabi immigrant family. The film is a landmark achievement because it is well written, well directed and very well acted and has a mature theme that is at the same time hilarious and relatable. South Asian storytelling in Canada (and North America) has really reached the next level. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Brilliant script, brilliant cast, Beautifully shot and directed. Touching but hilarious....must see movie of 2022! Aparita Bhandari Globe and Mail Even if Darshi hasn’t written Mona from personal experience, she clearly knows the character intimately, and gives Mona a kind of stubborn vulnerability that’s totally relatable. Mar 10, 2022 Full Review Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I thought it was quite well done... Generally, I think it worked quite well. Jan 26, 2022 Full Review Beatrice Loayza New York Times Despite her minor rebellions, Mona remains a frustratingly opaque character; a stereotypically troubled woman whose eventual awakening merits a shrug at most. Jan 21, 2022 Full Review Jorge Ignacio Castillo Planet S Magazine Donkeyhead is at its best when it focuses on Mona’s tailspin which is well-drawn, complex, and alternatively entertaining and horrible to watch. Rated: 3/5 Mar 15, 2022 Full Review Chris Knight National Post Donkeyhead is not a ribald laughfest but a thoughtful examination of immigrant experiences and filial expectations -- a little goofiness perhaps, but if you come for the comedy, stay for the drama. Rated: 3/5 Mar 14, 2022 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Enriching but trite family drama. Rated: B- Feb 27, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
