      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Don't Look Back does an impressive job of working within obvious budget constraints, but writer-director Jeffrey Reddick is overly reliant on genre clichés.

Shane M First of all, there is simply too much time and effort being spent on a Man being beaten to death in a park. Although this was terrible news, these people who witnessed it are being treated as if they witnessed something worse. Like, for example, a child being beaten to death, or something along those lines. It's as if what happened to that man happened in a town that has virtually no violent crime especially the way its portrayed on the local news. Realistically, sad to say, almost everyone these days just stares, or even films a fight of someone being brutally assaulted. It's not uncommon unlike in the movie. A news story such as what happened to that victim, would not be treated like the biggest news story of the year, but in this movie, it is all the town is talking about. This stretching of the storyline, took a lot away from what could have been a more interesting film to me. And the ending was no surprise at all. But the acting was good so not bad in that department. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/23 Full Review Tom M It has a coherent plot and decent pacing. Beyond that, all bets are off. Its vibes are corny, its thrills are cheap, and its religious morality is nauseating. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/22/23 Full Review Regina P These faith-based movies are getting better with production quality. I actually don't have a problem with the visual look or the acting here. I am critical of the message, though. I think the movie is too harsh on people who are thrown into a state of shock when witnessing violence. You want to help but are not sure if you are physically strong enough to prevail. Most people don't wake up expecting to be a hero that day. That is distinct from the opening scenes of real-life cold-hearted bystanders. That is completely different from what was shown in the story. But there was a twist in the end that seemed to suggest that wasn't the real lesson after all. Not a bad film. It did get annoying in the middle, though. Almost insulting it was so bad. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A fetid affair with zero originality and tons of virtue signaling. Phil Hoad Guardian With Don't Look Back very much feeling like a ropey first draft of Final Destination, Reddick's gimmick here is fuzzy compared to the franchise's ruthless focus on the feasibility of outsmarting death. Rated: 2/5 Jun 7, 2021 Full Review Jessica Scott Nightmarish Conjurings Wooden dialogue, jump scares that never actually scare, and a script that heavily endorses a “tell, don’t show” philosophy weigh the story down and leave the viewer wishing they were watching Final Destination instead.
