martin a This is a wonderful lost gem of a film, very Ealing. Basically a group of four soldiers is sent to an island in wartime to guard an outpost ready for an invasion, but it doesn't happen and they are left on the island. They find that a group of Germans have also been posted there and abandoned for longer. The germans have food and more ammunition but are happy to have been left there and ask the British troops to enjoy an amnesty, they agree and all get on really well. Then a woman who was in a shipwreck is washed ashore and the men go crazy! It is a lovely film, well-acted and a gentle story with a great cast.
