Critics Consensus

Doomsday is a pale imitation of previous futuristic thrillers, minus the cohesive narrative and charismatic leads.

Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle [It] may not have anything new to bring to the gallows, but what it does have is Marshall's deadly serious tone (one suspects Marshall could direct Robin Williams and Christopher Walken in Waiting for Godot and come out of it with his genre cred intact) Rated: 2.5/5 Oct 19, 2018 Full Review David Fear Time Out Rated: 3/5 May 30, 2013 Full Review Nigel Floyd Time Out Marshall's adrenalin-fuelled skill and enthusiasm propel the action forward with reckless abandon. Rated: 4/5 Nov 24, 2011 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A sloppy ode to John Carpenter Rated: 0/4 Sep 6, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The look of the picture is atmospheric and perfectly terrifying, but the eventual clashes and tragedies involve generic soldiers barely worthy of individual names. Rated: 3/10 Nov 28, 2020 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk Marshall's pilfering is brazen... but his movie is such an exhilarating, hell-for-leather ride that by the time you spot borrowings from Excalibur and Gladiator you'll probably applaud him for his cheek. Matthew B The introduction to this film is the polar opposite of what you'll be forced to sit through for the remainder of this mess. The beginning had me extremely engaged! A deadly virus, the military quarantining hundreds of miles only to desert it... not to mention GREAT looking practical effect gore! Very much reminded me of 28 Days Later only without the zombies. Unfortunately, the movie abandons most of this in favor of some off brand Mad Max experience. Not worth your time, couldn't even sit past the halfway point. Generic as you can get. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Jonathan O Escape from New York meets The Road Warriors with The Crazies and is actually one hellva bloody entertaining full of action and gritty violence and really outstanding stunts work but the camera work is a bit shaking in some scenes which is kinda difficult to see the actions but I had really fun. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/04/24 Full Review Lucifago D I love the movie and Neil Marshall’s concept. He essentially combines elements from various films like Mad Max, 28 Days Later, and more into one movie. The Bentley scene is incredible; it’s a true classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/16/24 Full Review Philip A I have only just seen this film and I must say that this was one of the most entertaining films I have seen in a long time. How did I miss this when it first come out? Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/24 Full Review Mark B It starts off well enough but when it tries to be a bad punk music video the cheese is there. It tries to be mad max road warrrior and turns into thunder doom at its worst. It tries to come around again but the ending just does not make much sense. There was something here but it is a mess overall. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review jp Pretty contrived. I gave it a chance as they said it was a hidden gem on HBO but the truth is its not so great. Like its really predictable and the effects are bad and story is pedestrian. Just not interesting to me... Maybe if you need background noise or something but to sit here and watch for 2 hours? Pass. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review Read all reviews
