Draft Day

What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's perfectly pleasant for sports buffs and Costner fans, but overall, Draft Day lives down to its title by relying too heavily on the sort of by-the-numbers storytelling that only a statistician could love.

Rated: 4/5 Aug 20, 2022 Full Review Robert Sims Lights Camera Austin While Ivan Reitman's a master of comedy, he fails to bring the necessary sense of urgency to a ticking-tock drama that's already hurt by a predictable script that lacks the thoughtfulness of Moneyball. Al J Nice movie about the 1st Pick of the Draft in the first Round of the NFL teams. But what happened with the 2nd. Round, 3rd. Round, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th? They didn't choose no more players? 🤔 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/23/24 Full Review Adam L I do not understand the world of football AT ALL. Although I admire the sport from afar, it is not my thing. After hearing about this movie from a podcast, here in 2024, I decided to give it a shot because Tom Welling is in it. HOLY MOLY, sports fans! I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat. I knew nothing about Draft Day or what went into it. This is the power of great storytelling. Ivan and this brilliant cast made me care about something and people that did not exist before I pressed play. The comic book style way of filming was amazing and I wished more directors used this technique. I loved this film and am always in awe when directors, writers and actors can make me feel something that on paper I should not have cared about. Please watch! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/19/24 Full Review Steve G I enjoyed this movie. The portrayal of draft day deal may have ben exaggerated, I have no way to know, but I found it intriguing and the acting was top notch. I can see how it could disappoint sports fans who love on the field action but I thought it was an interesting story. It had a bit of a twist ending with some heartwarming results. Something that is probably rare in the real draft day. There are so many empty movies today that just rely on special effects, machine guns and are thin on plot that I found this refreshing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Richard W I was somewhat engaged for most of the movie but the ending was very hard to decifer I'm sure you can find something better to watch Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Fred P I can't explain it but I love this movie! It's far from perfect but Costner is just damn good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Bronco 1 Pretty good movie about a sports general manager I found it very entertaining.
