Audience Member Absolutely amazing portrait of the life of Seattle-based performer Jinkx Monsoon, winner of Season 5 of "RuPaul's Drag Race". This documentary by Alex Berry gives the viewer a glimpse into JInkx's life pre- and post- Drag Race and examines how her life has changed since winning the crown. HIghly recommended! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Jerick Hoffer is an incredibly articulate individual, both as himself and as his alter ego, Jinkx Monsoon. Hoffer has a great deal of insight into the nature of drag and gender performance anf he has spent a great deal of thought and time constructing his drag persona. Unfortunately most of this is lost in Drag Becomes Him as it decends into more of an exhibition for Jinkx Monsoon and her antics. There are moments of the genuine, mostly coming courtasy of Hoffer's extremely supportive family. Hoffer by contrast keeps camping it up both in and out of drag undercutting any emotional or intellectual resonance that the film could have had in favour of pure spectacle. Which is fine if that's what you are looking for, but I wanted more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved the film, and I love Jerick. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I was blessed to be in audience at the premiere in Seattle with Jerick Hoffer, his family and his extended drag family. I watched it again the other day for the second time. It's an amazing, honest, revealing documentary on how Jinkx Monsoon was born. Jerick was already a star before Rupaul's Drag Race but winning America's Next Drag Superstar brought him to a bigger audience. I loved the early film footage of his early drag performances. It's great to see the wonderful relationship and the loving support that he has with his family. Alex Berry and Basil Shadid have done a brilliant job and thank you for allowing us to see behind the curtain of this multi-talented drag performer's life. It's a must see documentary!! I feel like I know Jinkx Monsoon a lot more intimately than I did before! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing insight to a wonderful queen. Jinkx is a star and seeing what went into her rise to America's Next Drag Superstar was a treat. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this documentary at it's premiere in Seattle. It's really well done. Even if you aren't a Jinkx Monsoon fan yet, the storytelling is compelling enough to make it a worth while watch for anyone. There's a lot of great humor and it feels very honest and raw. I highly recommend seeing it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
