Donavin D As kids, we all had those movies we kept on repeat, attaching ourselves to stories that resonated deeply. For me, Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn was on constant rotation alongside Shrek. Revisiting it now, it still stands out as one of the most fun and visually impressive Dragon Ball films. Set after the Buu Saga, Fusion Reborn wastes no time throwing us into the action. The animation is some of the best the franchise had seen up to that point, and it still holds up today with sharp character designs and a wildly colorful take on the underworld. The fight choreography is also mostly top-tier. The Goku vs. Janemba battle feels almost like a ballet, its slower pace and more intentional fighting making it one of my all-time favorites. Janemba himself starts off as a more unique villain, very different from what we’d seen before—lighthearted mindless murder machine. Once he transforms, he does become more in line with the usual Dragon Ball villain archetype. It’s still effective, but I wish the series had experimenting more with villain designs. My only other nitpick is the title, ‘Fusion Reborn’ and while that is the anticipated set piece, it was too brief lasting less than 3 glorious minutes. Even with those drawbacks, the film’s gorgeous animation, dynamic and well choreographed fights, and hype-fueled fusion make it one of the strongest entries of the Dragon Ball films. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/14/25 Full Review Audience Member It's a great movie, but a lot of the stuff in it did not age well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/24/24 Full Review Jay W "Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn" (Or whatever you want to call it) is the 12th DBZ movie, (Depending on whether you count the specials or Video Games). It follows the story of the creation of a new more powerful monster, made up of all the negative souls of the afterlife. With that barrier down all the dead rise up and cause havoc. And Goku and Vegeta must work together to beat this new monster, Janenba. This movie marked a new high point of quality for the DBZ movies. It is my favorite of all the animation styles. Some people may prefer "Super Broly", "Battle of Gods" or "Super- Superhero", but for me, this is the best these movies have ever looked. The fight scene between Janenba, Goku and Vegeta is full of great moments. The B-Plot that they cut to also has some good moments. Including Goten and Trunks taking down a particular evil villain who got released from Hell. On the downside, Janeba doesn't have much of a personality, he is just the big bad guy the heroes have to fight. Janenba follows too many of the same plot points that Majin Buu follows in the series. The way the fight ends is also pretty underwhelming, it just ends too quickly. And perhaps they spend too much time on the fighting of evil henchman from Hell, that could have been spent on the more plot relevant stuff. Nerd rant stuff: Shenron is completely wasted in this story and where was Cell? If only they could fuse the best elements of this movie, with the best elements of another DBZ movie. Other than those gripes, this is an all-around good time. I highly recommend it to any DBZ fan. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/24 Full Review Boc T Best DBZ movie from the first 12. We got good action scenes and some good comedy. Didn't care for the villain since he doesn't talk. Another movie where they make Vegeta look weak. Lots of cameos. Anime Hitler is hilarious. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/15/24 Full Review Giorgio S Honestly,it's the best Dragon Ball movie. The drawings are perfect and the Gogeta scene is one of my favourites of tge whole anime. Janemba is such a cool character with two fantastic designs and skills that are fantsdtic, especially if you can use them in Xenoverse 2. Vegeta is not the principal character but has a good enough role. The tone change shows how much themes Dragon Ball can talk about simoulteneansly. The austrian painter cameo is just the cherry on the top of the movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review Audience Member This one is amazing! OMG it was the event of the year when it came out. Every kid was talking about it. The animation still holds up too! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
