Jay W This was one of the first Dragon Ball movies I ever saw. It was one of the three that Toonami aired and several of its animated bits would make it into their "Rock the Dragon" intro. There is some potential in the premise, and the villain, although not all that clever, has a memorable design and makes an excellent example of what Goku could have been. It is a shame that this movie is so middling in execution. Turles has all these henchmen, which would have been excellent fodder for the Z- Fighters to take out, but in the end Goku has to do it all himself. The movie spends way too much time focusing on Gohan and his new Dragon friend Icarus. In the end, this movie ends up blending in with a lot of the other Dragon Ball Z movies and doesn't bring much new to the table. It clearly doesn't fit in the cannon of the series, and Turles is just a far less interesting Vegeta. The tree may not be mighty or pine, but it is fine.
