Audience Member Great Finnish pathos provided Hollywood style :) Got to read Kjell Westo's book to really get the essence of the story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Oh dear. A fine book has been ruined by cramming it into a 90-minute film. Even after removing 90% of the characters and the plot (and altering the rest in an inferior way), there's still too much source material - and the result is an incoherent set of seemingly unrelated individual scenes. Further, to try to maintain the nonlinear "remembrance" structure of the book was something even Tarantino would not have tried. Fine acting and photography, though. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member The sad thing is that if I hadn't read the book I either would have thought that it was a wonderfully poetic movie - but I couldn't help comparing, it doesn't reach the levels the book does. Movie's storytelling just doesn't flow, but I gave the stars for the actors - wonderful, wonderful acting which you don't see too often in Finnish movie. Especially Pekka Strang was totally amazing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Tätä katsellessa tulee sellainen tunne, että suurin osa elokuvasta on jäänyt leikkaamon pöydälle. Useamman vuosikymmenen kattavat tapahtumat juostaan läpi n. 90 minuutissa, minkä vuoksi draama jää tuskallisen pinnalliseksi. Tökeröin hahmo on taatusti Peter Franzenin esittämä "sydämetön" liikemies. Jopa musiikkiviittaukset ovat kliseisiä. Kirja saattaa kyllä olla ihan jees. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Didn't like this (based on critics) enough to go and see it in theater, so I saw it now on TV - and even if seeing some parts for finnish life on screen, this wasn't that good ...
