Keith C Very solid candidate for worst movie ever put out by a major studio. Completely incoherent story and terrible acting. If it was trying to make the script fit the atmosphere of the raves it is set to, it failed there too... there's more to being a decent psychological thriller and whodunit slasher than just putting it to techno and trying to hide the poor writing behind a techno motif. Either the actors were barely even trying, or the director was intentionally going for campy and silly without the self-awareness of an Evil Dead. This abomination actually seemed to take itself seriously, which is almost entertaining in itself considering how hard it was trying (and failing) to establish the character's backstory. The ending was equally predictable and unsatisfying, what was supposed to, I guess, be a twist just left me rolling my eyes. In fairness, I can't think of a way it could have ended any better or differently than it did... with the story it was built on, the finale was doomed to be meh no matter who was under the mask. I have never given anything half a star before. I could always find _something_ that deserved at least one, until now. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/24/23 Full Review brad p Dreamcatcher doesn't exactly add anything new to the post-slasher movie but it does have a pulsating soundtrack and a surprisingly strong wrap up. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review ali r This is an utterly forgettable movie that seems to be geared toward teens, but doesn't do the job well. Just watch I Know What You Did Last Summer or Scream instead. Awful plot twist that I saw from the very beginning. PROS: Are there any pros? I didn't see any. CONS: The actors tend to overact in this. No likeable characters. Zero character development. The pacing is awful and totally uninteresting. Kills are boring. No motivation given for the kills, which is ok in some movies, but doesn't mesh well with aspects of this movie. And what's up with the cheesy knife sounds when they pull out a knife? I guessed the killer right from the beginning. Has a lot of distracting things and things that don't make sense in it. SPOILERS! For instance, they're willing to leave someone behind for money. Someone that one of the people is related to. That makes zero sense. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This was definitely a movie. Drew Tinnin Dread Central If you can make it past the first act it's almost worth staying for the afterparty...Dreamcatcher doesn't exactly add anything new to the post-slasher movie but it does have a pulsating soundtrack and a surprisingly strong wrap up. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 9, 2021 Full Review Matt Donato The Gist It's a struggle to parse emblematic and important trauma infliction themes from an execution that gets lost in dizzying genre-hybrid ambitions that become a numbing trance. Rated: 2/5 Mar 8, 2021 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed ...the kind of slasher that is not fully realized in terms of the usual rules and tropes, but it also works as a different type slasher and as a pretty film to entertain for a while. Rated: 4/5 Mar 8, 2021 Full Review Alex Saveliev Film Threat You'll be too busy being annoyed at the headache-inducing incomprehensibility of it all to be frightened. Rated: 3/10 Mar 6, 2021 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Common Sense Media Shallow and all surface, this not-scary, nonsensical, and far too long "horror" movie offers nothing new and seems to have been made by people whose chief interest was posing for the camera. Rated: 1/5 Mar 5, 2021 Full Review Nathaniel Muir AIPT The story ends up collapses under its own weight. The premise is a fine one and the setting is unique, but nothing comes together like it should. Mar 2, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
