Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Tonally, the film is a mess, unable to decide if it's a damning downer or ... the inspiring story of conquering injustice. Dec 10, 2015 Full Review Ken Jaworowski New York Times Though the timeline and a few details could use further clarification, "dream/killer" remains fast-paced and frightening. Dec 10, 2015 Full Review Ernest Hardy Village Voice The fact that viewers, like the Fergusons, can muster only bittersweet relief at Ryan's release from prison is the film's whole point: The legal system itself is so damningly captured. Dec 1, 2015 Full Review Maria Vultaggio International Business Times A powerful, disturbing look into the American judicial system. Feb 6, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews

the s This documentary should disturb and terrify every American. Freedom is the cornerstone of American life and this movie reveals how anyone's rights can and may be steamrolled for the sake of prosecutors celebrating a win (literally at the cost of an innocent person's life). It also highlights how ridiculously slow and impossible it is to undo an injustice after it's been created for someone and how crooked and corrupt the whole system is from the bottom level of cops to the top of rich, white old men whose only concern ISNT justice and truth; it's protecting one another when they get busted for railroading innocent suspects. Prosecutor Kevin Crane "earned" his judge's robe by destroying innocent lives so he could further his career and then other appellate court judges protected him as part of the old boy's club. Disgusting but a mandatory watch for those who want a look behind the robe to see how filthy and corrupt court systems can be. You think America guarantees freedom for innocent people who follow our laws? Nope. Because people like Crane use innocent lives to crawl up in order to further his career and financially enrich himself in the process. Ambition has traditionally been an element in tragedies…it just wasn't until now that we found out that the tragic part affects innocent people because the system feeds on those innocent people and the machine has never been set to detect justice and truth; it's been set to pin crimes on someone…anyone..so that grimy prosecutors can celebrate "wins" and continue to further their career. This movie shined a light on who Crane really is so people know who they're dealing with now. Nothing honorable about him. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I just finished watching this on Netflix. I have seen similar documentaries about innocent people going to jail before. I usually enjoy them. With this one, I just felt there were too much unexplained and too many loose ends. In this documentary they never really tried to construct an alternative case. They never even tried to provide an alibi. I mean, given what was presented on this show I would not vote to convict given the hurdle of reasonable doubt. That said they never convinced me that the guy did not do this crime. Finally, the father.......I did not like this guy and I sure would not trust him Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review greg r These boys killed that man. And no amount of audience movie reviews will change that. This is a documentary about a sick dad who refused to admit his son was a brutal murderer. Period. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Just watched this on Investigation Discovery and it was really good! But, the only problem with the film I found (because I'm a stickler for accurate facts in documentaries) is at the end there was some info given that Ryan was suing the police dept but not the Columbia, MO PD but Columbia, MI PD. Really?! They couldn't catch that error in editing?! So much for giving out the "facts". Yes, it bothered me that much. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member 'I felt pretty confident since I used to watch Perry Mason.' Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Interesting story for those who enjoy "The Jinx" and "Making a Murderer". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
