Tim Grierson Deadspin If Hollywood is going to be indicted for making mindlessly violent action films, let them at least be as good as this one. Feb 12, 2013 Full Review Calum Marsh Slant Magazine Whether by design or otherwise, Dredd seems better-suited to a 2D home video presentation than to the 3D silver screen. Rated: 3/4 Dec 30, 2012 Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle I may have never seen a nonhorror film as relentlessly, brutally, and crowd-pleasingly violent as this skintight adaptation of the long-running British comic-book character. Rated: 3.5/5 Sep 28, 2012 Full Review Iván Kazi EscribiendoCine It is as ponderable in its entirety as in the sum of its parts. It is, fundamentally, a beating to the senses. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 10/10 Apr 12, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review When so many action films rely on shaky camera work and a seemingly rushed assemblage of shots strung together by a wired editor, Dredd is as calculated as its hero. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 25, 2022 Full Review Travis Johnson Flicks (AU, NZ, UK) A great sci-fi action film, one that hints at a broader, weirder world while maintaining a tight focus on the matter at hand. Andrew It was a wonderful re-release and should be seen by more people! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review christina w It was boring and a bit corny at times. Perhaps I dont have a full appreciate for this video game made movie but for it to be action sci-Fi it was not giving excitement or intrigue. Would not recommend. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review William W Dredd was a fairly boring film. Yes some gruesome violence (which didn't save it). Literally the only good thing about this Movie is Karl Urban. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Carlos B A remarkable action film! a shame it didn't do well at the box office... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/09/24 Full Review Jithin K After Raid Redemption and before John Wick, there was Dredd. This had so much potential to be a great franchise, they should've made at least a sequel since its success in home media. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/08/24 Full Review William B I saw Dredd in the theater In 2012, and in retrospect, it was my favorite action movie of the ‘10s, and, with Coraline, the best use of 3-D during an era of overuse. The movie feels self-aware, and not to its detriment, but rather allowing for characters to fulfill their role without betraying the comic source material. Karl Urban as Dredd is allowed to be a stoic and cold and faceless force of nature, in contrast to the beautiful Olivia Thirlby as a green, empathetic Judge Anderson. Lena Headey is a fantastically unhinged villain, in a performance that makes you feel for, but also actively root against, her. She expertly reflects the depravity of the world this takes place in. Every cast member is perfect, there is a message to the story, but not one that seems forced or merit-posturing, and I still hold out hope for an eventual continuation for this incarnation of Megacity One.
