Serena Donadoni indieWire While Hachmeister acknowledges that Michelin rewards bold culinary innovation as well as refined traditional cuisine, he expresses a distrust of the star system. Rated: B- Oct 25, 2012 Full Review Ronnie Scheib Variety Hachmeister jumps from chef to chef, country to country, sampling little soundbites or chronicling the meticulous building of a blini on an asparagus stalk, with no clear structure to give the docu momentum. Sep 24, 2012 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Hachmeister has a bit of food porn to offer, but undistinguished cinematography makes this aspect less indulgent than it could have been. Sep 24, 2012 Full Review Annlee Ellingson Paste Magazine The film ultimately lacks any flavor or bite. Rated: 5/10 Sep 28, 2012 Full Review Doris Toumarkine Film Journal International Less a luxurious cinematic meal than a generous spread of snippets and tidbits, this feast for foodies features ten mostly European-based Michelin-awarded chefs. Audience Member I can never get enough stories about chefs and food. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Ironically, Three Stars is lucky to even get two stars. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie has, perhaps, the unfortunate position of being viewed after Jiro Dreams of Sushi, by which I now judge all food documentaries. It's not a bad film but just very superficial and incomplete. Featuring more chefs than is possible to profile with depth, the film never discovers a chef's driving obsession and what motivates them to get to and stay at the top of their careers and what is the cost of staying at the top. It does offer the viewer a rare glimpse into the operation of kitchen and in Jean-Georges' case, operation of his business. The music is wholly un remarkable. The editing could be tightened. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Quite interesting, if you are into understanding the application of the Michelin Star rating system. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member It had potential, but jumps from chef to chef too quickly to really get a story.
