James Adams Globe and Mail The film ranges far, wide and deep in its exploration of this distinctively 21st-century form of "dehumanized" combat. Rated: 3/4 Nov 20, 2015 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times "Drone" is a solid, thought-provoking documentary that raises some pertinent questions even if they may not originate from the most objective of places. Nov 19, 2015 Full Review Neil Genzlinger New York Times There are no suggested solutions here to the difficult issues raised, but the film at least reminds us that it's important not to accept this new way of warring without scrutinizing it. Nov 19, 2015 Full Review Barbara Majsa barbaramajsa.com Tonje Hessen Schei and her team attempted to address this issue from a so far neglected perspective. The film's power is definitely the series of intimate interviews done with Bryant. Aug 23, 2020 Full Review Jorge Ignacio Castillo The Canadian Crew This Swedish doc by Tonje Hessen Schei covers a lot of ground in succinct fashion. Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 31, 2020 Full Review Phil W. Bayles One Room With A View It would have been nice to hear testimony from someone still inside the drone program, but Drone is an effective exploration of a seldom-discussed political and moral issue. Audience Member Do you want to know what is going on with our military? Then watch this! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Good, not great. Eye-opening but lacking, it would have done better with some more context in between the long melodramatic takes. I didn't know drone operators could be held accountable for international war crimes under the US' complicated structure between the CIA, DOD, and Air Force, but I also didn't know the very low effective percentage of targeted kills vs civilian casualties there were, and I'm concerned our surgical scalpel may not be much better than a nuclear hammer, and that our double-taps are not terrorism themselves. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a Fantastic Documentary and if it is only 1/2 true its enough change the main thinking of this country. The US and some of its allies are the biggest terrorists in the world. The US 's imperialist activities were bad enough before the drones but now they have a free rain on killing. Its the same as they were when they used the Atomic bomb on Japan. Totally disgraceful. No wonder that the US is one of the most hated countries in the world. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A film that wanders aimlessly in it's sensationalized and one-sided view of reality. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Warfare is always a vital discussion, and therefore the public must be informed. This film, however, is less an attempt at informing the public about truth and much more a tool used in a political endeavor, it seems to me. The portrayal of drone operators using two enlisted sensor operators who make claims of PTSD from limited experiences through a video screen, is disingenuous as far as the film maker purports to show two sides. Brandon Bryant, the literal poster child for the film, has said wildly contradictory things about his short military experience in the media push to promote this film. This reliance on fiction at the expense of truth makes me doubt the credibility of the entire film. How drones are used in war is a critically important discussion, but this film degrades that discussion in my opinion. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Drones is an interesting thought piece on how drone warfare is politically expedient but perhaps not morally so. The focus on the potential for drones being used against the United States is a good warning but somehow the version of the film that I saw lacked subtitles and therefore the context provided by those who were victims of drone attacks was lost. More discussion with the drone operator who left his position would have made for a stronger film as well. We tend to observe him more than hearing from him in a lot of cases.
