if you like straightforward stories, this is not your film, but if you like complications and cleverness and highly stylized dissections of power games, it may be just what you're looking for. Go to Full Review

02/06/2020 Searching to find Duet for Cannibals, I found the documentary Regarding Susan Sontag. I don't know enough about her. There was the Met Gala. Notes on camp. I've read briefly Regarding the pain of others. An interesting lecture on something difficult to clarify. But I've been managing my time badly so I had to return the book at the public library before finishing it. The documentary is relevant. Worth the watch. Specifically to get to see Sontag through archives footages. The interesting addition to my viewing of the documentary before the film, was that I was able to see how she put herself out there in everything she created. I was hoping for her first movie to be exactly like Duet for Cannibals. An analysis of our faculty of communication. How to manipulate a lie to make it look like the truth. Aren't we all a bunch of liars after all? How can we exist outside the built codes of our society? Tomas is hired for a new job. His presence require days and nights. Now living with his new boss and his unique wife. Distractions used by them to keep him closer. An escape seems like a complicated act but not impossible. He's getting confused. Far away from Ingrid, his girlfriend. There's consequences. Ingrid misses Tomas. She found a way to get involved. As Tomas gets lost by the confusion of appearance, we get to feel the same way. Unable to see clearly. No answer given. A reflection of power. The games of power. How the one who holds it has to act to achieve the selfishness of power. Should we trust each other by the way we act or by the way we are? Is it possible to dissociate those two definitions? Maybe it's all a game where we can be played. We're free of every possibility. We just don't know how to take advantage of that. See more Read all reviews
