Synopsis
Director Robert S. Levi chronicles the life of legendary jazz musician Duke Ellington, from his humble beginnings in the West End neighborhood of Washington, D.C., to his meteoric rise during the Harlem Renaissance, to his late-career comeback at the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival. Combining Julian Bond's narration with reenactments and rare interviews with Ellington himself, Levi presents an incisive portrait of one of the 20th century's most influential American musicians.
