Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times As the film progresses ... the hilarity does not escalate along with the outrageousness. SkyRo P Dumbbells is a comedy that awkwardly falls flat when it should be delivering a lot more laughter and fun. It’s filled with poor comic timing, weak jokes, and a story that strays all over the place instead of staying on track. The film focuses on a former NBA prospect whose career was cut short due to injury. He finds a new passion in art — and it’s a shame the story drops this thread — because it seemed to be a much more unique angle. Instead, the plot focuses on him working in a gym filled with drugs, questionable relationships, and a worker who sleeps with nearly everyone. It all feels messy, weird, and unfocused. It’s nice to see a new writer and director score a distribution deal — it’s a big accomplishment — but you need a strong script and a solid cast to back it up. Kim and Missy are the only two who bring any spark to their roles; everyone else feels bland and uninspiring. The result is a film that falls far short of its potential and leaves you wondering what it was trying to be. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/14/25 Full Review Audience Member There is something non pretentious about this movie. It looks to me that no one wants to play but to tell a story and give a message. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Dumbells is just dumb the same kinda humor as dumb and dumber. I would say u would watch this movie stoned or drunk. I feel this movie was crap. Not suitable for the kiddies. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie ROCKS! Love that Jack Guy!!! I thought this movie was very funny and not raunchy - Drolet and Hoyt did an excellent job! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Dumbbells was an incredibly funny movie. It was a good natured film that just wanted you to laugh... and it accomplished that goal.
