Kenneth Turan Washington Post Because of its distinctive, evocative qualities, we forgive The Dybbuk all its trespasses. As a record of a bygone way of life and as a starkly moving drama of doomed love it is very much one of a kind. Jan 8, 2018 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl The Dybbuk is distinguished by the expressionistic cinematography of Albert Wywerka as well as Waszynski's direction and Henryk Kon's soundtrack. Audience Member A beautiful film though the acting can be called painful. Not really for Gentiles--but why not? It's more of a Halloween movie, but between the cultural references and Yiddish language, I'm not sure who would benefit. Yet the entire film is a must-see because these good people are Polish Jews who may not have survived WWII. They are portraying a Poland from centuries past: a world totally vanished by the time this film was made. (The rebbe's great-grandfather was a student of the Baal Shem Tov, for example.) The cinematography is at times haunting; marvelous to see even if difficult to comprehend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A tragically beautiful film...both in its place in history and in its cinematic art. Lili Liliana is spellbinding! One of my favorite movies of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Every Eastern European Jew must see this move. This is the pentacle of Yiddish culture, language, and folklore that's been nearly wiped out. This movie has an amazing story. I personally consider it one of the best films of the 20th Century. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member has no one seen this classic of yiddish cinema? no? well, as in the 900s of they shoot picture dont they top 1000 films of all time, it is worth a watch. as a jew, it is personally an interesting film though it was definetely very very dull. i will admit that the music is good. it reminds me of hebrew school...oh wait. now i really hate the movie!
