David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) It tries hard to be horrific and gruesome, even introducing a bit of fashionable torture near the end, but only the most credulous will find it genuinely scary. Rated: 1.5/5 Nov 14, 2008 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald There is no civic responsibility in horror. You can insult whomever you like, so long as you make it scary. This one has a few good moments but not enough to rattle one's bones. Rated: 3/5 Nov 7, 2008 Full Review Alissa Simon Variety Even by the low standards of other horror-movie victims, the foursome here seem blithely clueless, always splitting up for no good reason and running headlong into ambushes. Jun 10, 2008 Full Review Steve Biodrowski Cinefantastique The setting is the island of Tasmania rather than the Australian outback, but after WOLF CREEK and STORM WARNING, any city folk stupid enough to wander this far off the track deserve whatever they get - and boy, do they get it. Jan 10, 2009 Full Review Ruth Hessey MovieTime, ABC Radio National It's a textbook gorefest. Give it a miss if you don't like blood. Nov 7, 2008 Full Review Annette Basile FILMINK (Australia) Right from the opening credits, with their strangely beautiful blown-up images of blood and the accompanying darkly rhythmic score, you're primed for something terrible to happen. Audience Member Dying breed attempts to connect a cannibalistic killer and an extinct tiger on the Tasmanian island. A sister is traveling to scope out what happened to her sibling and the town is all in on it. But just what the connection is with the teeth, the tiger and the people stays vague. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Joel C Surprised this went under my radar since it's Aussie and has Whannel in it, who I thought did a good job acting along with the rest of the cast. The scenery looks great, I've always wanted to film in Tasmania and overall it's a decent production. Some of the gore FX come off cheap, which I don't know why they'd use CGI for it, it would have had more impact with practical FX. The bridge ending scene maybe felt rushed considering it was the grand finale battle, but I did enjoy this film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/21 Full Review Audience Member A Movie that uses gore to identify itself as horror with unnecessary gore scenes and a lack of care and likability for the poorly constructed characters. Why is there constantly a cliched character who is the dickhead? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Two and a half stars. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Enough with these Australian outback cannibal stories. Sheesh.. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Pleasantly surprised. Solid Aussie horror with great cinematography by Geoffrey Hall.
