Pat H Sometimes it's worth taking a punt of something low-key that you might not have heard of. Easter Replacements is a quirky little gem, bringing warmth, heart and humour to the Easter dinner table. Monte James and Anasia Obioha are Billy and Bobby, a couple with a slightly malfunctioning power dynamic who intend to host Easter dinner for two other couples. When those other couples back out, but Billy’s determination to be a welcoming host means that they end up entertaining two replacement couples instead. This is a film bursting with independent spirit and warmth, with a real undercurrent of affection for, and empathy towards, the characters no matter how unusual the situation may get. The production values are top notch, which really helps to keep the environment feeling snug rather than stifling (the majority of the action takes place in the same location). It’s a quirky look at human relationships with a bunch of charming performances at the heart of it, with a heartwarming and well-crafted story serving to give every viewer a very pleasant Easter dinner indeed. A quick shout-out for the charming animations that book-end the movie as well. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/25 Full Review Bill C Easter Replacements is a charming indie drama that blends sharp wit, heartfelt moments, and insightful social commentary. When a married couple hosts Easter dinner, unexpected guests bring cultural clashes, secret agendas, and plenty of tension. Monte James and Anasia Obioha shine as Billy and Bobby, navigating believable chemistry and compelling conflicts. Writer/director Travis Grenke’s strong script and nuanced storytelling keep the film engaging, while its light faith-based elements feel natural. A well-acted, thought-provoking indie with humor and heart—perfect for a family-friendly Easter watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/25 Full Review Alec C Uncomfortable faith-based situations, strangers at the dinner table…Hosting Easter Sunday dinner can be more than a challenge! My wife loved this movie. Really reminded me of holidays with my family! No worries, though, it won't cause any sort of post-traumatic stress disorder for anyone still recovering from their own family holiday dinners! Plenty of great and witty banter between an eclectic group of holiday guests. Not to mention a great plot twist you probably won’t see coming. Great writing and direction from Travis Grenke. Anasia Obioha, as Bobby, delivers a standout performance. This one is fun for the whole family. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Ruby G Really enjoyed this! Very clever set-up about a man who needs an easy-going, low-maintenance wife to impress his boss. But OF COURSE things don't go as planned -- which is where the comedy comes in. I liked the characters, the plot and definitely have a few good laughs. Really glad I took a chance on this indie film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review micah c An engaging and fun family drama that balances lighthearted humor with insightful commentary on relationships. The plot revolves around a married couple facing tensions as they host two unexpected couples for Easter dinner, leading to awkward interactions, cultural clashes, and secret agendas. Despite the film's simple setup, the character development shines, making it more than just a typical dinner party comedy. The dialogue is sharp and often witty, with moments of depth that elevate the film's message about family values, personal sacrifices, and communication. The diverse cast delivers solid performances, bringing their characters to life in a way that feels real and relatable. Writer/director Travis Grenke does an excellent job balancing comedy with heart, creating a well-paced film that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The film also explores the evolving dynamics of modern relationships, moving away from traditional tropes like "happy wife, happy life" to embrace the idea of mutual happiness. If you enjoy character-driven comedies with a sprinkle of life lessons, this indie gem is definitely worth a watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Kolo P This reminded me of some 90's sitcoms with characters coming and going from one room to the other or dashing out to fix a relationship glitch here and there. I think the dialogue was meant to make me cringe at times with embarrassment (did that person really say that?) which adds to the comedy style of the film. Nice that the film was clean and had a decent underlaying message as well as some twists in the story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/25 Full Review Read all reviews
