      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Easter Sunday's refreshing representation is frustratingly undermined by stale gags and an unimaginative approach to its numbingly familiar story.

      Audience Consensus

Even if it isn't as funny as Jo Koy's standup, Easter Sunday is a decent light-hearted comedy with a positive message.

christina m Over acting was awful Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/16/23 Full Review Jason I liked it because it gives a pretty good insight on the Philippines culture and family. I am Asian myself so I understand that our daily lifestyle is a bit different than others. I have filipino friends and I understand where they are coming from and learn a bit about their culture which i seen in the movie. I feel like non-Asians don't understand what is "acceptable" or normal in an Asian household or how we think so they might not enjoy this movie as much but Jo Koy did have some jokes in the movie that Americans can pick up instantly and that is a good direction to teach Western people about Asian culture just like Crazy Rich Asians but the difference is I feel like Crazy Rich Asian captures "European rich" more than actual Asian rich so it isn't traditional Asian rich but the author's goal is to find a bridge to show the Chinese culture. There are still like a ton of different Asian culture that People in the West don't understand so this is only a small part of a much bigger Asia. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/03/22 Full Review Marietta H I liked how the movie reinforced the importance of family supporting one another, and spending quality time together. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/19/22 Full Review Tom It was a good movie so funny throughout the entire movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/22 Full Review Google Very funny! Dwight Brown DwightBrownInk.com Jo Koy’s vibrant spirit leaves a lasting impression. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 15, 2022 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) This is pretty funny -- starts slow but finishes strong. Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Katie Rife Rolling Stone It’s clear that Jo Koy loves his relatives, and wants the world to know it. It’s just that his style would be better served within the more earnest confines of a traditional multi-cam sitcom. Aug 5, 2022 Full Review Zach Pope Zach Pope Reviews The movie has a great sense of family culture & some good cameos that do actually bring the laughs but in the end of the day it feels like a sitcom made for a movie & takes you out of the entire experience Jul 25, 2023 Full Review Tina Kakadelis Beyond the Cinerama Dome Instead of the charming, well-meaning mess of a family in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Easter Sunday is focused on an irredeemably dysfunctional family. It’s no wonder Jo wanted to skip this dinner. Jul 24, 2023 Full Review Ryan Oquiza Rappler Did this story live up to the quality we should have expected for the first ever major Filipino-centric Hollywood film? The answer is an emphatic no.
