What to Know

Critics Consensus

It owes a huge debt to older (and better) teen comedies, but Easy A proves a smart, witty showcase for its irresistibly charming star, Emma Stone.

O C E A N E Personally, no matter what others may think of this movie, I truly believe it is a great film. I am 15 years old, so it was released just a year after I was born. However, even when I watched it at the age of 11—ten years after its release—I found it captivating, entertaining, and surprisingly timeless. Of course, it is not a film to be taken too seriously, as it relies on humor, exaggeration, and sometimes absurd situations to deliver its message. But that is precisely what makes it so enjoyable. One important thing to remember when watching this movie is that the mindset in 2010 was very different from what it is in 2025. Certain jokes or situations may seem outdated or even controversial by today’s standards, but they reflect the culture and humor of their time. Instead of judging it by modern expectations, I think it’s best to appreciate it for what it is—a fun, lighthearted film that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you’re looking for a movie that is easy to watch, genuinely funny, and even carries a subtle moral, then this is a great choice. The characters are engaging, the dialogue is sharp, and the situations are often so exaggerated that they become hilarious. Of course, it’s not for everyone. If you are uncomfortable with intimate or slightly provocative scenes, you might find certain moments a bit awkward. However, if you can take it with a sense of humor and an open mind, you will most likely enjoy it. Overall, this movie may not be a masterpiece, but it is definitely worth watching if you want to have a good time. It proves that even after many years, some films still manage to entertain, make people laugh, and leave a lasting impression. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/18/25 Full Review Reese R This movie just depresses me. She did something she knew would seem a certain way and is shocked when she is seen and called out for being that way even though she’s faking it. I feel like this movie promoted a lack of shame for girls sleeping around by trying to imply that it was cruel for her to be judged by everyone when if what she was doing was real it would be disgusting and no one would want to become attached to someone who had seriously been with everyone and anyone. It denatures exclusivity and glorifies casual sex even though she’s just lying. It removes the special aspects of what relationships mean and what sex is actually for. It’s supposed to be a shared experience that is more exclusive and when openly shared becomes worthless. I know she was just lying in the movie and that’s the point but the moral of the story gets fogged up in the process. Emma stone is great but this movie is just sad. I think teens find it funny and relatable because teen movies have had the same message for decades now which is “Get laid!” but as you develop the implications become bothersome. The way movies cover the high school goal to not graduate a virgin I feel has influenced many generations to speed run experiences without knowing the actual gravity of what they’re doing mixed with the realization you have when you’ve waiting until you’re ready and the rewarding growth that comes with it. I know it’s just a funny movie but kids watch movies and imitate behaviors. They feel shame for not being laid and see others doing things and it inspires behaviors that don’t end well. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Fer S Another movie where adults play teenagers and the humor is inexistent. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/18/25 Full Review Samuel W Emma Stone stars in a star-studded cast that contains the likes of Thomas Haden Church, Amanda Bynes, Lisa Kudrow, Stanley Tucci, Malcolm McDowell, and Penn Badgely. The movie follows a young girl who finds herself unraveling into the threads of the plot of The Scarlet Letter, and how she tries to get herself out of a terrible lie she said to satisfy her best friend’s thirst for excitement. With a surprisingly good plot, characters that were entertaining and seemed to have depth, and comedy that was strikingly good, I was pleasantly surprised at all turns of this movie. Including the witty, off-beat acknowledgements of its own crazy plot. With an ending and a feel that seems slightly reminiscent of Mean Girls, it was definitely worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/01/25 Full Review Audience Member Offbeat and funny. Definitely worth a watch if you like Emma Stone Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review derek e The comedy was frequent throughout the film but not as sharp as it could have been in some scenes and often added unnecessarily cringeworthy and uncomfortable moments that made you want to turn of your TV. A lack of positive role models also impacted the enjoyment of tbhe film Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
