Audience Member A surprisingly mature (*ahem*) sports movie, for its time and even for today, about a professional football player with health and financial problems (marred somewhat by a too-hectic beginning and a rather nasty ending). Really, it's about dead capital sucking the life out of living labor. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a not so interesting story about aging football player Victor Mature deciding between retirement or continuing on to please his demanding wife, Lizabeth Scott. There's also the team secretary, Lucille Ball, who's in love with Mature. That being said, Ball is a very good counterpoint to Scott's icy beauty and the film is strikingly directed by Jacques Tourneur. Tourneur actually manages to make the gorgeous Scott seem even more glamorous than she normally seems. It's not a classic, but worth watching for fans of Tourneur, Scott or Ball (and I suppose Mature if you're a fan, which I've never been). Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member ok sports movie-no relation to the 1937 screwball comedy Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Solid drama with Lucy excellent as Victor Mature's secretary who carries a torch for him and Lizabeth Scott silky rotten as his grasping wife. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member 60/100. With a title like "Easy Living" and a cast including Lucille Ball, one would expect a comedy, and that it is not. It is a sports drama. As a film, it's only fair, the leads are not strong enough to keep it interesting. Well made but not very memorable. Lucille Ball is the best in the cast. I never felt Victor Mature was a strong performer, perhaps the film would have been better with say, Kirk Douglas or John Garfield. Howard Thompson New York Times But perhaps the most persuasive thing about "Easy Living" is the forthright depiction of professional football as a stimulating, cash-on-the-line business, one Mr. Schnee seems to understand from locker room to goalpost. Aug 16, 2019 Full Review Dudley Early Austin American-Statesman A movie far above the average, it just misses being a fine picture. Jun 23, 2020 Full Review Jordi Batlle Caminal El Pais (Spain) It's made with a great pulse, but lacks the height of Jacques Tourmeur's other unforgettable films. Jul 6, 2010 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews This would-be intelligent soap opera tale about the early days of pro football never reaches a boil.
