Sofia R This is a movie about the Kalavryta Holocaust worth seeing, particularly as there are no other films made about the crimes committed by the Germans against Greeks during the WWII. Thank you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review Vassiliki A A very well-done movie showing a glimpse of what the Greeks suffered under the Nazi occupation...And Germany still has not paid reparations to Greece or the so called "occupation loan". Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/17/23 Full Review antonis k Despite the best efforts from the late great Max Von Sydow? 'Echoes of the Past' feels disjointed and messy, while the historical inaccuracies further hurt the film. Making for a very forgettable experience that simply doesn't honor the story it's telling. (4/10) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Was lucky enough to see this in the cinema and it was a great film and finally a film showing some Greek history that has nothing to do with Ancient Greece. An anti-war film at heart that switches between the present and the past. A real human film, with a great cast and beautiful photography and music. It can stand proudly next to foreign films and shows one of the darkest stories from WW2 in Greece. I found myself crying in the scenes on the hill. And Max Von Sydow's last film...what an actor. When he recounts what happened, it breaks your heart. Watch it if you can. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Really powerful and important story! I was so moved watching it. The cinematography and directing are amazing. Great casting as well. Highly recommended! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing movie with very emotional and heartfelt cinematography. Incredible directing. Must watch to understand this moment in history. Kevin Maher Times (UK) It’s odd, amateurish and uneven. The subject, and indeed von Sydow, deserved better. Rated: 2/5 Feb 28, 2022 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian [An] odd, stilted and contrived movie... Rated: 2/5 Feb 15, 2022 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film It is very much worth watching if you’re interested in the history of the period. It is another voice among many, swelling in sorrow yet already fading, drowned out by the relentless clamour of time. Rated: 3/5 Mar 4, 2022 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Those seeking a less provocative analysis should seek out Elias Yannakakis's documentary, Kalavryta: People and Shadows.
