Bosley Crowther New York Times 11/13/2007
2.5/5
The symbolism with which Director Gustav Machaty attempts to point up the theme of romantic frustration and ultimate fulfillment rather heightens the confusion on the whole, though there are a few isolated instances when it is strikingly effective. Go to Full Review

It still has its charms, both cinematic and sensual. Go to Full Review

Unfortunately, the film has aged badly, and today is mainly a curiosity piece. Go to Full Review
Herbert Cohn Brooklyn Daily Eagle 06/10/2021
Experimentally it was a dud. It was a bad motion picture --slow, poorly played, pretentiously arty and uncommonly dull, for all of the hullabaloo it caused. Go to Full Review
Mike Massie Gone With The Twins 07/27/2020

09/19/2015 my review: http://wp.me/p1eXom-21D See more 02/11/2012 Ecstasy boasts some lovely montage sequences of nature and such and it is interesting to see an early sound film. However, the subtitling was off, and while there wasn't much dialogue it was enough to be annoying. It's an interesting film as a piece of history, but it's a tad long and spare. See more 01/07/2012 Interesting to see from the historical point of view (history of cinema) because it was the first orgasm and the first naked scene in history. Of course it has been overcome by years, but few first-to-do movies can stand passing time. My reference is to the 1933 movie, not to the one which is described in the info and cast. See more 08/25/2011 The film was more captivating for its time. All we can do now is reflect on how controversial it may have been See more 05/04/2011 This pre-code film was scandalous at the time of its release. These days it's tame but beautiful nonetheless. Lamarr's ability to convey her sadness and longing with very little dialogue is a tribute not only to her skill but the power of silent (or in this case near silent) cinema. I loved this movie. See more 11/14/2010 I did not have a great experience on this movie and it's left a bad taste in my mouth, but many have praised it throughout my career so I guess it worked out in the end.
