Linda Barnard Toronto Star Not much new here, but there are solid performances and you have to admire cast and crew for shooting amid some challenging surroundings in snowy Sudbury. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 19, 2016 Full Review Johanna Schneller Globe and Mail This film will be remembered (if at all) as one of the things Holland did before he was Spider-Man. Rated: 1.5/4 Aug 19, 2016 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire Suicide Squad survivor Joel Kinnaman is aces in this otherwise iffy survival thriller. Rated: C Aug 12, 2016 Full Review Andrew Parker The Gate Connolly and co-writer Kyle Mann deliver exactly the kind of film one would expect from the premise, but there's nothing wrong with someone getting an easy premise right on the first crack. Aug 28, 2018 Full Review Chris Knight National Post Some films do a slow burn. And some burn so slowly that they risk having their fire go out completely. Edge of Winter is, alas, of the latter variety. Rated: 1/4 Aug 25, 2016 Full Review Glenn Lovell CinemaDope Kinnaman's weekend father is a return to form, a twitchy, deeply flawed character we can't help rooting for even as we fear the worst ... He reminded me of Nicholson in 'The Shining' ... Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 19, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews

SkyRo P "Edge of Winter" is a film featuring Tom Holland as a young boy navigating the complexities of his parents' divorce. The story unfolds as he ventures into the woods with his father, only to discover that his dad has a dangerous side, becoming increasingly unhinged in the snowy wilderness. For viewers who have experienced similar family dynamics, the film resonates on an emotional level, tapping into deep-rooted feelings associated with divorce and familial strife. However, despite its emotional weight, the movie falls short in the action and suspense departments. As a thriller, it seems to divert from the excitement typically expected in the genre, opting instead for extensive dialogue that often overshadows the underlying tension presented by the father's unstable behavior. While I appreciate the effort to develop the characters throughout the narrative, I felt that the film leaned too heavily on conversations rather than maintaining a sense of peril. For me, a thriller should evoke a sense of urgency without requiring the audience to dissect every small detail of the plot. Tom Holland delivers a commendable performance, showcasing his talent in a role that predates his iconic portrayal of Spider-Man. While he brings authenticity to his character, I found it difficult to connect with the father figure. Rather than conveying true menace, he seemed more like an erratic individual whose threats felt manageable. His aggression appeared targeted more towards others than his own children, leaving me questioning the depth of his danger. Although he might exert control through intimidation, it didn't translate into the level of violence I anticipated from a character in a thriller. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Lisa T Entertaining!! Good acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/24 Full Review kevin c Joel Kinnaman plays a father estranged from his two sons due to a divorce who during a weekend with his kids tries to bond with them by taking them shooting in the wilderness. Their car gets stuck in the snow and things go from bad to worse as he begins to act irrationally. Tom Holland and Percy Hynes White play his two sons. Fantastic performances from the main three as the tension builds as the story progresses. Great movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Clearly not a big budget movie but good character development and fine performances. Ending seemed a little clunky and the suspense could have been maintained for longer Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Acting was good, but it was SLOW, the plot was bad and the ending was worse. Hard Pass Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was good- I just wish there was a better ending Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
