A scientist (Vincent Price) builds an animated human being -- the gentle Edward (Johnny Depp). The scientist dies before he can finish assembling Edward, though, leaving the young man with a freakish appearance accentuated by the scissor blades he has instead of hands. Loving suburban saleswoman Peg (Dianne Wiest) discovers Edward and takes him home, where he falls for Peg's teen daughter (Winona Ryder). Critics Consensus

The first collaboration between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhands is a magical modern fairy tale with gothic overtones and a sweet center.

Edward Scissorhands is a flashy and entertaining apologia from an artist who has not accumulated enough work to justify such self-concern. Go to Full Review

Burton's modern fairytale has an almost palpably personal feel: it is told gently, subtly and with infinite sympathy for an outsider who charms the locals but then inadvertently arouses their baser instincts. Go to Full Review

An original movie, though not Tim Burton's best. Go to Full Review

Like many of Burton’s early films, "Edward Scissorhands" is among the treasured for its production design, score, costume design, and, of course, the cast. Go to Full Review

An alternately sweet and bittersweet fairy tale. Go to Full Review

The real world, the entire tone and style, feels like it's part of a fairy tale. Thankfully, as this is one of Burton's early films, it isn't about style over substance; the story is as weird and wonderful as the backdrop. Go to Full Review

j B. @gosteelers Dec 12 Absolute classic. Rewatch 100X! See more Hiroyuki K Dec 8 Although it’s said that the love between Edward and Kim is so pure, I don’t totally agree with that. I just found that Kim is a character who takes advantage of a friend for her own benefit. To me, she wasn't a compelling or likable female lead, and the absence of any real character growth throughout the film was disappointing. She dates a man who commits crimes just to get a car, uses Edward when it's convenient, and then seems completely unmoved when her boyfriend dies. I felt no emotional connection to her and, consequently, found the latter half of the movie to be quite boring. I was not moved to tears or impressed at all. See more Zachary K @ZacharyKing Dec 7 Weird movie, great cast, amazing soundtrack. There is just something so strange about having a character like Edward as the protagonist though, you can never really tell what he is thinking and it makes me very uncomfortable. Not Burtons best work, but definitely not his worst. 7/10 See more Yarin B @Yarinn Dec 6 I actually loved everything about that film, I loved how the director created that mysterious and unknown character, I loved the music in that film, I loved the character development they add, I loved the pacing, the pacing was 10/10 from start to finish, I loved how the director guide us with the camera towards suprisings scenes, I loved how in the start of the movie I couldn't keep my thoughts but thinking how this movie would/could end and where it can go, very emotional, very special, I recommend See more Max W. @thereviewingotter Nov 19 Such a surreal and bizarre experience. I really recommend a watch See more Tim B. @SlimTim0707 Nov 19 Both brilliant and bizarre, Tim Burton's dark love story that examines the bond that can form between human and machine is captivating and paves the way for future unlikely heartwarming sci-fi tales like Terminator 2.
