Ek Thi Daayan starts out as a well-acted, well-produced supernatural thriller, which could, and should, have climaxed with a knock-out punch. To which end, somebody should have walked across the wrap with a deft pair of webbed feet. Go to Full Review

The inclusion of unnecessary background songs (not subtitled) and a romantic subplot result in a sluggishly paced story, which is further undermined by a lengthy flashback and a preposterous final reveal. Go to Full Review

[The] childhood part of the story has some of the most terrifying scenes, including a hide-and-seek sequence that racks up the tension, and a pretty well-done ritualistic black magic sequence it culminates in. Go to Full Review

Ek Thi Dayaan is a supernatural crowd pleaser that bypasses the usual Bollywood melodramatic themes and gives you lots of witchy chills. Go to Full Review

Ritika K Sep 17 9/8/2025 The actors and some of the music carried the film. The story was interesting; it was like a supernatural premise being used as a showcase for a subtle commentary on childhood trauma. Emran Hashmi (Bobo) had a terrifying experience as a kid, and that affects his adult life; sometimes those memories drive his subconscious to act erratically. Using the folklore to narrate that experience was well done. It began with an eerie atmosphere, but the ending was abrupt and unsatisfactory. The movie could have been perfect if not for some moments of awkward dialogue and terrible scene direction. The direction was very subpar, some exchanges felt fake and forced, and that is what ruined the film. See more Luke W Apr 9 First half of the film what focuses mainly on the main character when he was a kid was great because the story is really interesting and you learn about the Daayan. It definitely feels like the whole movie should have focused on the childhood. Unfortunately the second half of the movie is just terrible. The writing is awful and is just a complete mess. They shove in a ridiculous wedding song which is pointless. The kid they introduce at the beginning of the film tries to get set up as important to the story but only shows up for 5 minutes. This movie is such a interesting premise ruined by pointless characters and terrible writing. See more 09/11/2013 After watching it's promo, I was expecting some quality horror in Bollywood film but alas this one suffers from "Curse of Second half & cliches". After it's terrific & scarier first half with excellent background score by Clinton Cerejo & some fine performances by Konkana Sen Sharma, Pawan Malhotra & Vishwesh Tiwari film does offer you something new. But it's the second half which is almost like some Vikram Bhatt movie with full of cliches where only Emraan Hashmi infuses some life but that tepid & stale writing reduces the second half to pure non sense. Massively disappointed by Vishal Bhardwaj's writing & pathetic performances by Huma Qureshi & Kalki Koechilin. See more Read all reviews
