What keeps the film propulsive, then, apart from the constant fragility, is Mujeeb Majeed’s score, which swells you into feelings, sometimes even before the feeling has been narratively wrought. Go to Full Review
S. R. Praveen The Hindu Nov 21
With Eko, Dinjith Ayyathan and Bahul Ramesh craft a solid mystery thriller, in which the animals have almost as much role to play as the humans. Go to Full Review

See more arvind s Nov 23 Director Dinjith Ayyathan and writer Bahul Ramesh have a perfect record so far, in terms of collaboration as Director & Writer. Their so-called Animal Trilogy has come to an end with their latest release, Eko. This was preceded by the Kishkindha Kaandam and Kerala Crime Files Season 2, all three having animals as important elements/characters/references. Eko is set in a hilly town of Kattukunnu, where Kuriachan's wife, Mlaathi stays with her househelp Peyoos. Kuriachan is a famous breeder from his time, an outlaw with a prize on his head, and many from his village on the lookout for him. Eko is a blend of the past and the present, as Kuriachan's life story unfolds for the world to know. Eko is not a movie that you can compare with the makers' previous work. Eko is altogether a different experience. It is a slow-burn tale that unfolds over multiple incidents and then comes together at the end with the kind of revelations that only a select few can come up with. The writing is intelligent and as the audience you are made to focus, think and then stare at the screen in awe of what just unfolded. It is poetry in motion. Everything about Eko is top notch. Take the Cinematography by writer Bahul Ramesh, for instance - it captures the cold hilly countryside so beautifully. The score by Mujeeb Majeed (another frequent collaborator) is pitch perfect. The performances by the cast are spot on. Sandeep Pradeep is having the time of his life with three stellar movies in 2025. He shows his caliber as Peyoos. Narain, Vineeth, Binu Pappu, Saurabh Sachdeva & Ashokan are effective in their respective/minor roles. Biana W Momin does an incredible job as Mlaathi. Eko is centred around dogs with multiple references to their behaviour and certain actions. The makers have done a wonderful job at extrapolating that on to humans, and that forms the crux of the movie. Eko is a movie that will require repeated viewing because there are things that will unravel as you delve into them further. Do not miss this gem of a movie at the theatres.
