Drew Gregory Autostraddle While recreations are commonplace in documentaries, here they feel especially important. They grant these stories an immediacy, a humanity. Aug 18, 2023 Full Review Chris Vognar Rolling Stone Eldorado is one of those documentaries that gives texture and context, faces and voices, to a well-chronicled period and set of circumstances. It does so with style, sensitivity, and a respect for the history it examines. Jun 30, 2023 Full Review Ben Turner The Pink Lens In giving the story of Queer people in the Holocaust a focus, this documentary surmounts the scale of the Holocaust by giving it a clutch of human faces. Rated: 4/5 Oct 7, 2023 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said Timely as walls close in around nonbinary folks, and gay oppression as a pre-existing factor for fascism. We meet survivors, including two men who live the American Dream today in Hollywood as musicians and composers. Hitler didn't get them all. Rated: 3/4 Jul 21, 2023 Full Review James Delingpole The Spectator I found this conflation of small ‘c’ conservatism and fascism not only morally dubious but historically dishonest. Jul 20, 2023 Full Review Nora Lee Mandel Maven's Nest Fascinating documentary uncovers astonishing newly found or compiled archival material on German trans and gay people, from feeling liberated during the Wiemar Republic, as represented by the titular nightclub, through continuing repression beyond 1945. Rated: 8/10 Jul 5, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Jens B I used to criticize the habit of colorizing archival footage but I have to admit: It works very well in the context of this documentary. I also really liked the mixture of archival footage, interview footage, and fictionalized scenes. Very moving! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/21/24 Full Review Darrel W Left out the parts about child abuse and beastiality being glamourised. Ignored the fact it was a hub of the bourgeoisie despised by the working classes. Funny how these things are always left out, hey? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Thom A It could happen again. It wasn't that long ago. The undercurrents are still there. A must for all those who won't watch it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/11/23 Full Review A S This was a fantastic historical documentary focusing on Berlin's progressive LGBTQ+ culture in the 1920s and the aftermath during and after the horrific Nazi regime took power. Considering the new rise in conservative fascism today, it's a reminder that history can repeat itself. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Alex F Some really shocking parallels between then and present day. A very important watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/04/23 Full Review Read all reviews
