      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Unquestionably kind to its mostly unknown subjects, Elstree 1976 documents the story of short-lived fame a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away while also serving as a companion piece to the franchise.

Audience Member This documentary is awesome! Touching and heartfelt, with Vader and Fett to boot! A must-see for any type of Star Wars fan or anyone interested in the original (and now) classic film know simply then in 1977 as 'Star Wars.' Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member It gets interesting after the first 25 minutes. The first 25 minutes are simply too long introducing the actors. I can see why director did this after I'm sure getting to know these people, but for the audience who have rented this to get behind the scenes stories of the shooting of Star Wars it doesn't work for the film. Honestly you can fast forward 25 minutes into the film and you won't miss anything related to Star Wars. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member God damn terrible. Avoid at all costs Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Serge L Strange little gossip film about people that were in the original stars wars film and kind of cash in with it. Things that fans adore and know all about. No big star in this this, only figurative actors, some did not talk and some had helmets and costumes on. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/17 Full Review Audience Member Poignant, touching and nostalgic documentary on the unsung extras and bit-part actors of a galaxy far, far away. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review desiree c Interesting subject but it moved too slow. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

May 12, 2016 Full Review Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly Elstree 1976 isn't an essential movie for anyone but the most obsessive fanboy or girl. It's a film about the strange hand of fate, the wages of dumb luck, and the flipside of fame-life on the D-list. Rated: B- May 9, 2016 Full Review Odie Henderson RogerEbert.com You're hearing some good stories told from the viewpoints of minor characters. This will hold your attention best if you are a "Star Wars" completist or a super-fan. Rated: 2.5/4 May 6, 2016 Full Review Josh Goller Spectrum Culture Like a storm troopers' aim, the documentary only occasionally hits the mark, but it's nevertheless a fascinating look at how 15 minutes of fame ages over 40 years. Rated: 3/5 Jul 20, 2019 Full Review Nico Hines The Daily Beast For hundreds of actors, bit-part players and costume-dwellers appearing in Star Wars in 1977 was the moment that would shape their lives-they were granted immortality. Mar 3, 2019 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault A crowdfunded effort from director Jon Spira, "Elstree 1976" is largely a matter of talking heads, some of whom are more interesting than others.
