Elway highlights one of the most celebrated athletes of the past 40 years, pro football legend John Elway. The documentary feature will follow his life on and off the field including being drafted to play baseball by the New York Yankees, starring in one of the greatest games in college football history, and winning two Super Bowls as a player and a third as an executive with the Denver Broncos. John Elway's narrative is undeniably historic--yet altogether human.

It’s not breaking any new ground in sports documentary filmmaking, but Elway is a competent, smart look at one of the defining figures of his era in the NFL. It’s a good fill-in if Sunday’s games end up duds. Go to Full Review

I’ve long held the belief that high-level sport is the best storytelling medium in existence, and what I like about Elway is that it believes this too. Go to Full Review

Chad K 2d The new John Elway documentary is perfectly watchable but ultimately underwhelming. It covers the expected milestones of Elway’s career, from his early promise to his Super Bowl wins, but it does so in a very safe and predictable way. For longtime football fans, there is little here that feels new or insightful. Much of the runtime is spent recapping seasons, games, and achievements without adding emotional depth or narrative tension. The pacing is another issue. Despite covering decades of football history, the documentary feels slow and occasionally dull. Key moments that should feel dramatic or earned often come across as flat. The film also avoids meaningful critique, presenting a polished version of Elway that rarely explores controversy or complexity. Overall, the documentary is not bad, but it is rarely engaging. It feels more like a career summary than a compelling story. Given Elway’s importance to the game, this ends up being just okay and a bit boring. See more Read all reviews
