Ruthe Stein San Francisco Chronicle Fear of Flying never got made into a movie. But imagine a 21st century version transported to Denmark with a transsexual thrown in for added titillation, and you've got the gist of the amusing melodrama Soap. Rated: 3/4 Dec 22, 2006 Full Review Lou Lumenick New York Post Another week, another movie about a depressed transsexual hooker. Rated: 1/4 Nov 3, 2006 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times ... the film is an anti-soap opera in the trappings of an old- fashioned sudsfest. Rated: 3/5 Nov 2, 2006 Full Review Ted Murphy Murphy's Movie Reviews While I might want to applaud Fischer Christensen for attempting to say something pertinent about gender roles and stereotypes, there is something curiously lacking in the characters. Rated: C Jul 14, 2007 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher Director Pernille Fischer Christensen is striving, I suspect, for a quiet seriousness and a respectful approach to transsexualism, but there's a point beyond which quiet seriousness becomes too-staid solemnity. Audience Member It's a surprisingly good movie. At first I didn't expect it to be good, but it really was. I loved the characters and the story. It was very touching and dramatic. I will surely recommend it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member I love voice-over when done right, and here it certainly is. The story is mildly interesting, even if the characters are not entirely likeable. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member [2006 @Spot Theatre] Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A terrible mismatch of a movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Trine Dyrholm is really, super awesome - sort of a Scandinavian Isabelle Huppert. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member A strange relationship between a self-absorbed woman & a self-denied transsexual-wannabe. The execution however is rather cold & boring.
