Alec C On the streets, you should be sure to have a partner by your side because a badge will not protect you! Two police officers patrol the streets of their L.A. beat while sharing a brotherly bond off-duty, only to run afoul with some dangerous criminals who have no problem shooting cops. A realistic portrayal of cops and their lives outside the job, the chemistry between the two leads adds some much-needed levity! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/11/24 Full Review KB B This was such an engaging film with tons of action and humor. It's definitely worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Max W the end really got to me. Brilliant movie. Gyllenhaal is the best Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Kauã M The characters are born with chemistry, you don't need 5 minutes to get attached to them and understand how their relationship works, and throughout this there is a great construction of development that culminates in a great ending. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/10/24 Full Review Tyler D Hands down the best Cop movie Ever created. It's as simple as that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Forged S While I'm not a flag-waving, "oorah," champion for the profession who gets choked up by movies like this, not by any stretch, this is about as "accurate" as you're going to get. Well, sort of. The story is region-specific to Southern California, however, the general banter, mannerisms and dialogue choices are fairly accurate to the profession, despite the usual Hollywood embellishments. You can tell writer/director David Ayer and actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Micheal Peña did their homework and the movie's honestly better for it. Not every movie needs to go to such lengths, but when a movie can showcase the reality of the profession, albeit a hyper-realized one (though not often seen), it'll hopefully inspire future creators to stop sensationalizing the police and misinforming viewers of what officers actually do and the real dangers they potentially face. Wendy Ide Times (UK) This abrasive and brilliant Los Angeles cop drama contains two exceptional male-lead performances. Feb 27, 2023 Full Review Francesca Steele Independent (UK) This is the thinking man's action movie, a cop flick that takes us off the beaten track. Above all, though, it is a bromance. Aug 11, 2017 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture Ayer and his cast appear to have so convincingly nailed the way these characters talk and act that you might not even notice the film slipping from workaday grit into out-and-out myth. Jan 8, 2013 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Though Ayer’s screenplay resorts to some of the clichés we associate with the genre, the performances are so strong that we hardly care.
