Peter Bradshaw Guardian This is something to be compared with Fritz Lang’s Metropolis or Leni Riefenstahl’s Olympia; there is an occult passion to it. Rated: 4/5 Jun 13, 2022 Full Review Richard Brody New Yorker The vigor and horror of the Russian Revolution provide both the substance and the stylistic inspiration of Dziga Vertov's 1931 film. Feb 1, 2016 Full Review Noel Murray The Dissolve It's valuable for its attempts to cut together ambient sound and snippets of narration into something halfway between avant-garde music and soothing white noise. Rated: 4/5 Jun 17, 2015 Full Review Andor Kraszna-Krausz Close Up Vertoff, also, has waged fierce, vehement and esperate battles with his material and his instruments (i.e., reality and the film camera) to give practical proofs of his ideas. In this he has failed. Jan 20, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Russian propaganda from the early 1930's; as usual, the montage cinematography is first-rate. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member For me, a mixed bag with brilliant cinematic technique in service of straight-up Communism with churches being torn down and farms being collectivized. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Another propoganda piece from Vertov. It doesn't live up to the promise of The Man with the Movie Camera, but it's reasonably engaging. The camera angles are bold and the editing is rhythmic (though sometimes too abrupt), which keeps things lively. More importantly, we see how Vertov embraced sound technology, utilizing music, sound effects and speech in ways both practical and avant-garde, diegetic and non-diegetic. Not essential viewing, but not bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member WTF!? WTF was that!!! So no plot, story, anything! One character who disappears fifteen minutes in. Really, REALLY bad music. and then really bad stock footage that sort of tell a story but only if your paying attention like 500% and your reading into it way too much! This made no sence and was a waste of time, if it wasn't for a class and I had to watch it I would have walked out. It fails as a documentry, fails as propaganda and passes as being very, very, VERY avante garde. Look even the plot box is empty; CAUSE IT SUCKED! Oh it was horrible! Never again! NEVER!
