Critics Consensus

Though its narrative themes are all too familiar, Epic is beautifully animated and crafted with just enough flair to make for solid family entertainment.

Steven D. Greydanus National Catholic Register Produces images of poetic power ... The catch is that the world the filmmakers create is far more interesting than the story they tell in it in it or the characters they put in it. Rated: B- May 31, 2013 Full Review Bilge Ebiri New York Magazine/Vulture For all its attempts at wonder and spectacle and play, Epic is mostly a slog. May 27, 2013 Full Review Nell Minow Movie Mom The visuals are pure magic. Rated: B+ May 26, 2013 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Only the very young will draw much from the generic storytelling, while the handsome animation of the natural world is wasted on dull characters and unexciting situations. Rated: 2/4 Sep 6, 2022 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com The more I allowed myself to be immersed in the visuals of Epic the more satisfied I became. Rated: 2.5/4.0 Sep 7, 2020 Full Review Leslie Combemale Cinema Siren Knowing the state of the animation industry, and how artists and animators put their hearts and souls into their craft, hoping to create something truly special, makes this end result very disappointing indeed. DAX T You’ve seen this a hundred times. It looks pretty. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Ryan L This is probably the second best Spider-Man ever made (2002 Spider-Man is the GOAT). This has everything and is so much better than the first of its series. Animated movies are not my thing but this is incredible. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Kieran Q This movie is EPIC!!! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/23 Full Review Max M This Blue Sky Studios BEST feature film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Mitchell B great film a must see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/11/23 Full Review ViraRiva I have avoided this movie for years simply because the title told me nothing on what this story is about. just epic. ok?? and I remember seeing the trailers and they didn't really tell me anything either. Well I only watched this because people say its similar to another movie I really liked so I gave this a shot. It was pretty good! Not the best movie I've seen or anything but interesting enough. I guess this is based off a book called the leaf men or something...should've just kept that title idk why they changed it. story is ok, the romance factor kinda came out of nowhere and the villain isn't memorable to me. I did like the bond between daughter and father at the end though, that was cute. I probably won't go out of my way to watch this again but if anyone asks if this is good I'd recommend it. especially if you like fantasy or fairy type of stories Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews
