Nathan Rabin AV Club Its repellent collection of yokels and its obsession with urine and flatulence make it less a cinematic valentine to the Upper Midwest than a giant clump of feces hurled in its direction. Jan 24, 2018 Full Review Brenda Benthien Variety Escanaba, as directed by Guy Sanville, proceeds at a fast clip, with all acting excellent (as usual at the Purple Rose). Jan 24, 2018 Full Review Lorilee Craker MLive.com Stamp is so funny as the dim bulb brother Remnar, and Cain's Reuben is hapless in a deer blind but wants a buck so badly you can truly relate to him and his quest. Rated: 3.5/4 Jan 24, 2018 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 2/5 Aug 11, 2005 Full Review James Sanford Kalamazoo Gazette The performances are zesty and consistently enjoyable, with everyone having a high old time speaking in an accent as thick and heavy as a slab of Mackinac Island fudge. James S Loved it I watched it as a kid and it's as good as I remember super funny and just good overall Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/28/25 Full Review David F This is a funny, goofy, paean to Michigan hunting season and the Midwest. It’s great. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review B W My dad used to rent the worst movies. So when he popped this in as my friends and I were on our way out to meet some girls, and we were literally stopped in our tracks hand on the doorknob with laughter, I knew it was something special. Years later I showed it to my wife and it became the one movie we would both quote while cackling with glee. It seemed like every year we'd show it to someone, just to see if they thought it as funny as we did, to see if we could be friends or not. She passed away this October after a 7 year battle with cancer. She could split wood. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Im glad that Jeff Danials did a UP movie. Other then that this movie is horrible. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Audience Member You had me at "my Chevy shook a shit"! This movie has a plot only a mother could love, but that's what makes it good. Usually when the masses love a movie, it's plot is fairly innocuous and predictable; boring to me. What a simple, entertaining, movie. Love it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member While this movie isn't for everyone, and goes way way way off the deep end, there are no doubts that this is one of the best movies that captures the culture of yoopers and subverts it for a hilarious hunting movie. Also the best fart scene in all of Cinema. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews
