Variety Staff Variety A well-produced film transcription of a story of moods and morbidity. Feb 23, 2012 Full Review Pare Lorentz McCall's You never would want to see the picture more than once, but there are very few Bergners in the world and, lacking any other immediate opportunity to see her... you will find Escape Me Never an important, if typical, star movie. Oct 30, 2023 Full Review Forsyth Hardy Cinema Quarterly The camera does its work of photographing Bergner smoothly, sensitively and unobtrusively and Paul Czinner in his direction reveals that mastery over mood which made Der Traumende Mund memorable. Audience Member I had never heard of "Escape Me Never" before I happened to read about it in a list of movies from 1935. I had also never heard of the director or any of the cast members. By the end, I couldn't tell what the purpose was. I don't know whether it was supposed to be a romanticization of old-money gentry or a typical rom-com. Either way, it didn't do anything for me. There's a reason why it didn't win its Oscar nomination. Very dated movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member just ok version of this-there are 2 versions Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review steve d Its all been done before and better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie because it makes you feel right along with the characters in it. I think it's neat that Ida Lupino did more than just act-- she became a director and a producer, and in those days that was pretty uncommon.
