You never would want to see the picture more than once, but there are very few Bergners in the world and, lacking any other immediate opportunity to see her... you will find Escape Me Never an important, if typical, star movie.

I had never heard of "Escape Me Never" before I happened to read about it in a list of movies from 1935. I had also never heard of the director or any of the cast members. By the end, I couldn't tell what the purpose was. I don't know whether it was supposed to be a romanticization of old-money gentry or a typical rom-com. Either way, it didn't do anything for me. There's a reason why it didn't win its Oscar nomination. Very dated movie.

I love this movie because it makes you feel right along with the characters in it. I think it's neat that Ida Lupino did more than just act-- she became a director and a producer, and in those days that was pretty uncommon.
