Critics Consensus

Claustrophobic and stylish, Europa Report is a slow-burning thriller that puts the science back into science fiction.

Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic There is something refreshing in the decidedly downbeat "Europa Report," a science-fiction film with the emphasis on science that doesn't cheat on the tension. Rated: 4/5 Aug 22, 2013 Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle Low key and earnest, Sebastin Cordero's "Europa Report" makes compelling use of familiar genre material to create an intelligent science fiction thriller. Rated: 3/4 Aug 15, 2013 Full Review Tirdad Derakhshani Philadelphia Inquirer There are scenes of unutterable beauty in Europa Report, a low-budget space exploration sci-fi suspenser from Ecuadorian director Sebastin Cordero. Rated: 3/4 Aug 9, 2013 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film While it gets a little cheesy and more sic-fi toward the end, it's still fun and dramatic... Rated: B+ Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Jennifer Bisset CNET Prepare to be sucked into a vacuum of suspense, made more heart-pumping by Europa Report's preoccupation with plausibility. Mar 21, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Cordero can’t seem to decide if he’s made a horror movie or a heady sci-fi tale, and his genre mashup feels unbalanced for it. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

babarizam D I hate this whatever it is. Everyone is so fake that you can tell they are acting like instagram post. The writing is just awful and acting well... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review William B This is one of the few found footage movies I've seen, and it was an interesting watch. However, it's nothing to write home about, as they say. If one of my friends invited me over to watch this, I'd still watch it with them because it's a good movie, but I wouldn't be jumping up and down about it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review za2T0 # It has a sci-fi tag, but three out of six crews died because they don't have a safety wire. It has an alien creature, but it looks like a squid, just like any other cheap space movies. It has a thriller tag, but the plot is so dull that i almost fall asleep. One of the worst space movies ever. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/03/24 Full Review home o Europa Report could take pointers from "Prospect" on how to do a sci-fi on a low budget. It's passable and somewhat scary, but I hardly cared about the characters. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review Jose Raul B Good movie, however i think it could have been a bit longer to allow the Director show some more the strange lifeforms in Europa. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/20/24 Full Review Audience Member There's a lot of scientific and engineering problems with this movie that is trying to portray itself as realistic. So, it hides its shortcomings behind a ton of distortion. Every time something interesting is about to happen the cameras stop working so you don't see the thing that is supposed to be thrilling. You get the sense that it would have cost too much to show you so they cut the cameras and told you to take their word for it. Bottom line, it's a flimsy sci-fi thriller that neither fascinates nor thrills. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/24/24 Full Review Read all reviews
