Claustrophobic and stylish, Europa Report is a slow-burning thriller that puts the science back into science fiction.

Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic There is something refreshing in the decidedly downbeat "Europa Report," a science-fiction film with the emphasis on science that doesn't cheat on the tension. Rated: 4/5 Aug 22, 2013 Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle Low key and earnest, Sebastin Cordero's "Europa Report" makes compelling use of familiar genre material to create an intelligent science fiction thriller. Rated: 3/4 Aug 15, 2013 Full Review Tirdad Derakhshani Philadelphia Inquirer There are scenes of unutterable beauty in Europa Report, a low-budget space exploration sci-fi suspenser from Ecuadorian director Sebastin Cordero. Rated: 3/4 Aug 9, 2013 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film While it gets a little cheesy and more sic-fi toward the end, it's still fun and dramatic... Rated: B+ Aug 16, 2024 Full Review Jennifer Bisset CNET Prepare to be sucked into a vacuum of suspense, made more heart-pumping by Europa Report's preoccupation with plausibility. Mar 21, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Cordero can’t seem to decide if he’s made a horror movie or a heady sci-fi tale, and his genre mashup feels unbalanced for it. Audience Member People saying this movie was refreshing to emphasize science fiction, only pretend to be interested in science. The movie is void of science in ridiculous ways and filled with nonsensical jargon to confuse simple minded people and the movie uses impractical logic that they wouldn't think twice about (lack of any safety protocols, deathly crash landing a small movement of the ship in 1/6th of Earth's gravity, electromagnetic interference that conveniently only affects the viewers cameras and not anything on the ship, the ship filling with water from the bottom despite the top maintaining air and oxygen for the crew, etc.)... The entire movie is slow paced, without any development of characters and very little plot. The characters are lifeless and have no emotional weight to them. The film scoring feels like stock music of lydian scale space music. The biggest fail is the use of documentary style/found footage, once again to confuse people to think it's a science fiction movie, and makes for tiresome experience. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/05/25 Full Review Peter P i would not sit through it again, but glad i watched it once. the characters didnt actually make me care about them. the constant flashing back and forth deadened the momentum of the plot progression and the rising tension. and the big reveal at the end looked like something on earth. just not too satisfying. but still overall glad i watched it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/08/25 Full Review Bryan S It gets off to a weak start, but gets better as it goes along. I appreciated the realism as compared to what we normally see in movies. The acting is ok even though it doesn't always capture the astronaut attitude. If you like space movies, this one is worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/27/25 Full Review Anthony B A very good approach to the sci-fi genre. Beautifully filmed with surprising angles and effects. Overall, I enjoyed seeing it twice, but was left feeling a little let down at the end. There was something unfinished. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/27/25 Full Review Kyle R If you're looking for a Hollywood blockbuster with big-name stars and jaw-dropping special effects, this ain't it. What this film does deliver, however, is some pretty good science along with quality acting, well crafted sets, and a solid storyline. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review babarizam D I hate this whatever it is. Everyone is so fake that you can tell they are acting like instagram post. The writing is just awful and acting well... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
