Ola G EVE VIII (Renée Soutendijk) is a military android created to look and sound exactly like her creator, Dr. Eve Simmons (Renée Soutendijk). When the robot is damaged during a bank robbery, it accesses memories it was programmed with by her creator. The memories used, though, are dark and tragic ones. The robot is also programmed as a killing machine if anyone tries to stop her mission. Colonel Jim McQuade (Gregory Hines) is tasked with eliminating the unstoppable machine. With the help of Dr. Simmons, he tries to outthink the intelligent and emotional robotic doppelgänger... The film received negative reviews from critics. Vincent Canby gave a negative review in The New York Times, calling the film "an undistinguished, barely functional action-melodrama." (Via Wikipedia) I saw "Eve of Destruction" back when it came out and I had forgotten about this film. It's partly a clear rip off of "Terminator" and you can see other films shining through in the storyline. This is not Gregory Hines proudest moment, but to be honest I thought it was better than I expected. With that I do mean better in a b-action movie sense of a way. All in all ok for what it is. Nothing more, nothing less. Trivia: The movie opened with $2.5 million. It finished its run with a total of $5,451,119 against a $13 million budget, making it a box-office bomb. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/13/24 Full Review Liam D This a shameless ripoff of 1984’s The Terminator but this Thriller has some 90s cheesy vibes and campy to make it a guilty pleasure fun Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Georgan G This was a darn good movie. The writing & acting were good enough to keep me interested every moment! Have no idea why it got bad ratings. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/09/23 Full Review Audience Member So bad that it is good. A classic! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member It's The Terminator without the intelligent plot. It's Species without the sex appeal. A mildly entertaining b-movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Eve of Destruction is a science fiction/thriller about a cyborg named Eve, which is designed as a bioweapon for the military. It's also been built to look like its creator (Renée Soutendijk), as well as programmed to experience her emotions. But when it suddenly gets loose and begins running amok, it's up to its creator and a military specialist (Gregory Hines) to either contain it or destroy it altogether. The story is the movie's main problem, which lapses in its logic constantly, but is carried well enough by its leads. Soutendijk is tasked with the job of playing the dual roles of both the cyborg's creator and the cyborg itself and does a decent enough job with them. Hines spends almost the entire movie angry about everything, which at times can get a little stale when you want a little more from his character. And despite the movie not being a commercial success, it's kind of stuck around because of its minor cult following. The movie certainly isn't perfect, but it has some fun 'cyborg on a rampage' moments to at least keep it interesting. You're never really bored while watching the movie, that's for sure.
