Steve D I don't like the resolution but the film is really powerful. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/07/23 Full Review Ken R It was odd to find this title added to a ‘Forbidden Hollywood' volume, it's quite a classic love story. Regardless of Stanwyck's opinion of her early Warner/Vitaphone pictures, this is quite a surprising movie on several levels, and she is dazzling throughout. Its theme of propaganda, national bias and social intolerance remains strong and timely for many people to this day. For its age, it remains good looking, even if a bit obvious by today's standards. Many moving and serious situations play-out in its WW1 setting making this a forgotten gem - deserving to be seen by lovers of vintage classics. With a true Shakespearian ending, veteran director Archie Mayo and Si/early sound Cinematographer Arthur Todd, fill its fast-moving short running time with stylish visual class. The WB Archive transfer DVD is good looking with fine sound Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/04/20 Full Review ashley h Ever in My Heart is a decent film. It is about World War I that brings tribulations to an American woman who married to a German. Barbara Stanwyck and Otto Kruger give good performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Archie Mayo did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and mystery. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Relatively short movie- aprox 1:15 // seen on TCM- the 1st 2/3 were good..gives an interesting perspective of how legal immigrants were perceived back in the day..Tragedies notwithstanding in this particular play...it all went well had fluid script up until the abrupt & seemingly illogical separation. Barbara Stanwyck ends up supporting troops in Europe..magically her ex shows up who is coincidentally platooned in the same camp..this is were the movie falters..Suspension of belief further questions when her ex mysteriously shows up in her camp dressed as U.S. MILITARY ( he is German with noticeable accent- no explanation as to how he made it in). Conclusion is swift & sad...best part were the German songs sung & words spoken..this could have been greater bit it seems like they lost interest in the script after 2nd half. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Some pretty heavy stuff here. Barbara loses everything here. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Better than average melodrama about the trials of a German-American couple under the anti-German sentiments of WWI. Generally well-acted, although Stanwyck had yet to find a range between weeping and hysterics, and the whole story might be a little depressing for some.
