Danielle Johnsen indieWire Narrated by Laurence Fishburne, its in-depth interviews with band members, friends and fellow musicians from the punk/ska scene of the late 1980's make it so you don't have to be a fan of Fishbone to be enthralled by their story. Rated: A- Dec 6, 2019 Full Review Wesley Morris Boston Globe It's a hearty, thoughtful, smartly assembled, vaguely complete documentary about a rock band that, even by the standards of out-there musical acts, seemed out there both in the mid-1980s and even now. Rated: 3/4 Jan 10, 2012 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle It's a movie about what it's like to almost make it in the music business, but not really, not quite. It's about coming close and watching it slip away. Rated: 3/4 Jan 5, 2012 Full Review Bill Arceneaux Moviegoing with Bill A typical documentary in some sense, about a group of rockers who were and still are very atypical in all senses. So comfortable about such chaos. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 12, 2024 Full Review Christopher Lloyd The Film Yap A documentary with some familiar shades, "Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone" is about what happens to band members after the music stops. Rated: 3/5 Jun 23, 2022 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row While most of the world passed them by, Fishbone now lives on in celluloid form thanks to this spirited and admiring documentary. Audience Member A fantastic, authentic and critical look at a band that was FAR ahead of its time. One day, I suspect, there will be a Fishbone renaissance. Until then, I'll have to humorously agree with Angelo's mother (Dazireen Moore). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the BEST movie/docs made. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorite bands of all time. One of the most underrated as well. This documentary shows the highs and lows, warts and all of the music industry. I'd recommend this to all Fishbone soldiers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best bands of all time gets a fantastic documentaries. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member i haven't stopped thinking about this one for a few days. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Originality is an under-appreciated commodity. Democracy among an ensemble of creative genius is a necessary component of the true mutual accommodation of its full potential. Originality is an accident that when allowed to flow into a controlled cooperative experiment can release immense creative power. Thwarted, it becomes habit & formulae for cliche & drudgery. Even at the price of deserved wealth & fame, true spontaneity must maintain an element of itself throughout. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
