...“Exterior Night” may not sit with [Marco Bellocchio's] very best films (like “Fists in Pocket,” “China Is Near,” “Good Morning, Night” and “Vincere”), but it fits seamlessly into an astonishing body of work. Go to Full Review

Mr. Bellocchio has always said that he makes films for Italy, but the indignation he generates in this series goes global. Go to Full Review

Even when you know its culmination, the series manages to catch you off guard and feel paranoid with its game of spies, infiltrators, manipulators, and attackers. Go to Full Review

Bellocchio invokes a certain excess worthy of Paolo Sorrentino but in general, he gives a classical tone and spirit to his charged melodrama. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Generous with tension and action, Bellocchio wraps the historical drama in a sober, yet captivating and potent aesthetic. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It’s character-focused, sure, but as each powerful character laments their inability to do anything to change the course of events, the series itself presents an inability to say anything beyond that. Go to Full Review

giaime f Sep 12 Long and stretched series, it serves well the purpose of capturing the calculus, the inaction and the moral strain of those days. motives, choices and strategies of the protagonists are well portrayed, with empathy and care. amazing performances especially by gifuni. however, some tension build-up and some pace in key moments could have been better managed. ruminative, thoughtful and artistically compelling work. not suggest to non italians, unless basic knowledge of the subject See more Caquas M Feb 27 Superb cast, brilliant script, sustains tension and drama throughout even though it mainly sticks to the historical facts, as far as they are known. But its portrayal of the Christian Democrat leaders is unfair, especially in the final episode. They faced a profound moral and political dilemma which is not spelled out in this series. We see Cossiga and other leaders almost cracking under the strain but they never express their motives clearly. Instead, they are presented as evil conspirators who preferred Moro dead while the conspirators who murdered Moro and five security guards are presented as misguided idealists.
