Stefan Birgir Stefans sbs.is For a Jaws rip-off, it’s quite good. The performances really carry the movie since there isn’t a lot of monster action, but they are working with a fine script, so it goes down smoothly. The monster is bad CGI, but it works. Kahn4 While it's in my opinion Farley's worst movie, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/03/22 Full Review Audience Member With missing people and snarling locals, the tension begins building immediately. The threat is credible. The cast members are not Hollywood royalty, but they are convincing. Satisfying finish.. Not an epic, but a solid action-adventure flick. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/22 Full Review christopher c. m Cliché small town stereotypes. They don't want Dan in town, even though he said he's here to find out what's wrong. The fact that the lake is fresh water and squids giant or otherwise can survive in fresh water. But no one even bothers say to say, "Squids can't survive in fresh water." During the cliché when nobody believes the truth part of the movie. Also, giant squids survive are born in some of the deepest part of the open ocean, there is no way that lake would be deep enough. Lastly the white fishermen being racist against the Native Americans come out of nowhere and goes nowhere and has no baring on the story what so ever. It's not totally horrible, it's just disappointing. A little research and better characters would have done this movie wonders. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This wasn't bad. I feel like older SciFi channel films didn't try as hard to be good. The acting was more genuine. The budget was loser. There's less tacky pop culture references. They feel more like a made-for-TV film than a B-film and I think that's a good thing. Still back then they were obsessed with slow motion. I mean everytime someone was killed, way to overkill the effect. The plot is whatever. Pacing is cool. This one isn't boring and a lot better than a lot of the films that came after it. The monster's origin isn't really explained or poorly explained, starting with films like this, the concept of how they killed this monster is used almost exactly the same way in the future films to come. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member The Sy Fy channel turns out a "new" movie seemingly every week, but those of us who suffer through enough of them to know that they're all basically the same film featuring a different new killer animal. "Eye of the Beast" at least takes itself seriously for the most part, but that doesn't necessarily make it any better than the rest. There's a lot more talk that we're used to, and most of the squid "action" is reserved for the clumsily filmed finale in which the hopelessly phony CGI creature is finally put to rest. The one thing that is nice about the conclusion is that we finally get to see the eye of the best promised by the title. Until that point, we're stuck with imagining what the rest of it looks like because all we get to see are its tentacles. For someone who's never been much of an actor (and this film is not likely to change that all that much), James Van Der Beek is decent here. He has a nice scene in a bar with co-star Alexandra Castilo that works, so much so it feels like it belongs in a completely different movie. The rest of this is mostly dull, silly stuff that's too boring to be any fun and not well made enough to be taken seriously. There's also a ridiculous backstory involving a feud between the Indian and native fishermen that comes out of nowhere and seems to have nothing to do with anything. It just pads out the running time, and if there's one thing that "Eye of the Beast" doesn't need to be, it's longer. Even as brainless entertainment, this dud falls miserably short. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member James Van Der Beak stars as a marine scientist on the trail of a monster squid which causes the local townsfolk some grief. There's an amusing exchange on the subject of why some consider fishing better than sex but otherwise it's a fairly non eventful affair. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews
