Henry, an agoraphobic and anxious young man living in Los Angeles, hacks into the webcams of various selected young women who inhabit the city. He watches over them in their daily lives, seeing himself as their guardian angel. When his new charming roommate Eric, a Youtuber and struggling actor pushes him to get out into the real world, he unknowingly puts Henry in danger. And as Henry starts to suspect one of the women he watches, Laura, of being a killer, everything starts to spiral out of control.

Even if the carnage steamrollers the first part's amiably bleary digital-age comedy, Eyes Without a Face is still a fine showcase for the two leads.

This could easily have been a lot worse but for what it's worth, Eye without a Face is surprisingly solid. It's hard to root for a perv and his jerkface renter, but it's all we have to go on.

Digital voyeurism goes horribly wrong, An interesting if scarcely unique premise runs out of time and is not rescued by a hastily executed resolution. Still entertaining enough to suit well heeled voyeurs.

Don't miss it. It's one of those films where nothing much happens for most of it, yet I found it impossible to turn away. The direction, the photography, the acting and the music are superb. It's not a gorefest, nor is there (much) cannibalism involved, but the unravelling of the story is fascinating, and the idea that we are being watched, by a god, a devil or a hacker, makes for a fascinating story that stays in the mind afterwards, raising all sorts of metaphysical issues. It's a worn premise of inner demons coming out as the real killer. Henry can't go outside, so he watches people on hidden cameras...and when a new roommate pushes the boundaries - the man in the mask comes out.
