Richard T. Jameson Film Comment Magazine Kubrick's final film is unique in his oeuvre for concluding on a note of apparent affirmation. Apr 10, 2018 Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times This is finally a film that is better at mood than substance, that has its strongest hold on you when it's making the least amount of sense. Dec 14, 2014 Full Review Stephen Hunter Washington Post It's empty of ideas, which is fine, but it's also empty of heat. Dec 14, 2014 Full Review Jayne Nelson Radio Times Eyes Wide Shut still has an eerie mood that is purely Kubrickian. His smooth, neon-lit world and its unhappy residents are compelling, even addictive. Rated: 4/5 Nov 13, 2024 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick doing Kubrick but it's not quite a masterpiece compared to earlier works, nor is it an erotic thriller. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 16, 2024 Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast A fascinating look at obsession and desire that only Kubrick could craft. Rene M Greatest film of all time Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/13/24 Full Review Markus S A good weird movie for me it happens when the storytelling presents untypical or unconvincing elements and they manage you to like them; this movie is weird but in another way, the storytelling is carried more by the deep thoughts of everyone's actions, it dives so deep into the main topic, that suggests a different type of movie trajectory, which can be boring for some. For me it wasn't boring, but neither was as meaningful or important as some other works from Kubrick. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/19/24 Full Review Adriel A The movie is quite good and leaves you with a great feeling of suspense. It can be quite explicit, although being such an exquisite film I don't consider it a mistake. The only mistake I see is the lack of action, since there is usually a lot of suspense or even some touches of terror but without that ending that gives you the feeling that something bad has happened or that you have suffered a consequence. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/16/24 Full Review Rami A This was Stanley Kubrick's final film. He sadly passed away before the film's release, making it a posthumous release. As a movie, it's fine, the performances are fine and the point overall is just plain out strange. It's just Tom Cruise failing to come to his senses and overcome his jealousy. Plus his blue balls. The film’s exploration of jealousy and obsession is heightened by the surreal atmosphere Kubrick creates. The cinematography is hauntingly beautiful, with each frame meticulously crafted, showcasing Kubrick's signature style. The supporting cast, including Nicole Kidman and a host of eclectic characters, adds layers to the narrative, portraying the complexities of human desire and morality. The famous masked ball scene, in particular, stands out as a representation of the dark underbelly of privilege and the facades people maintain in their lives. Despite its shortcomings, the film invites viewers to ponder the nature of relationships and the consequences of unchecked lust and mistrust. It’s fascinating how Kubrick combines elements of thriller and drama, ultimately leaving the audience with an unsettling feeling that lingers long after the credits roll. While it's not his most accessible work, it undeniably offers a unique take that leaves you contemplating its themes long after viewing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Eric S The fact that Eyes Wide Shut has a lower score on Rotten Tomatoes than “The Batman” is all you need to know to know this site is garbage. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review B.A P The alternative Christmas movie. A movie that needs to be watched over and over, not only because it's Stanley Kubrick, but because it is the last Kubrick movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
